Hey! Checking in and glad to be here. Thanks for a ton of good info already.
Just graduated from GTC Truck Driver Training. Then took and passed SC DMV CDL A test. HME & Tanker too on the license.
Became more or less a 'budget cut', found my rear-end out of work two years ago. 15 years in golf course irrigation. But also a part-time paid/volunteer firefighter. That kept me going awhile but a radical re-education was called for. This site helped tremendously in evaluating where to seek driver training. Plus lot's of other details about professional trucking.
Another new one..

Enjoy the ride, cause it's gonna be bumpy! Road maintenance SUCKS these days.
-
Thanks for the welcome. I pay our county $20 per vehicle, per year for 'road maintainance'. Which road gets maintained depends on who lives on it.
May as well start out on the board complaining.

Welcome. I would have tried to get a full time job being a fireman. I know in my area they make pretty fair money, hellacious benefits, very ample time off, and a darn good retirement after about 20 years..
-
That's an oddity, the fire service doesn't really pay that well for an extremely difficult job. I did it for a short while before I went back out on the road. It can be interesting, but it will dog you out hardcore.

Happy New Year! Similar to trucking, you have to love the work in the fire service. Unless you are a career ff in a large city, the pay/benefit is not good. Almost everyone south of the chief has a second job. But the majority are not doing firefighting for $$. It is a kind of calling.
My challenge now is to get enough home time to continue with my department. Run strictly otr and I would have to turn in my gear. But once I got to run reasonably local I can rejoin. No ff really admits it, but helping somebody on their worst day is the real payoff. Hard to give that up.
Went to the expense and time of tdt school to begin the right way. At my age it is critical to not waste time with a poor outfit. A little luck would help.
Thanks again for the welcome... -
