My husband is attending the Swift school in Lewiston Idaho. He has been very pleased with them. My suggestion to you, is to read some of the threads on here and see what others have to say. And don't hesitate to ask, if you have specific questions. I found that people on the Swift forum are a great source of information :biggrin_25514:

Well, hubby passed!! :blob: Orientation will be Tuesday . :sleepy2:

As for Swift academy, hubby would recommend the Lewiston one to anybody. He had two instructors, they had very different styles and he learned alot from each of them, mainly that the real training would start with his mentor. But hubby feels they at least taught him the basics and were straight up and honest about how much more there was to learn.

Out of the 4 Washington guys scheduled to test today, hubby was the only one to pass. 1 guy opted to not test and to return to the academy for a little more training. The other two, went out and celebrated last night, and were booted for drinking. :sign6: The drinking cost them 4 grand.

The level of stupidity out there is insane sometimes. When I went through school we had three brothers from Chicago show up Monday to start school. These geniuses decided on their way TO school to spark up a blunt one last time before starting their training. Needless to say drug test booted them. But, atleast they were not like the rocket scientists here that spent four grand before getting the boot :biggrin_25525:

Hubbys CDL came in the mail yesterday, but was marked as needing corrective lenses (was supposed to have been removed). While there the guy at DOL noticed that hubby still had a active licence from 5 yrs ago when we lived in CA. :biggrin_2551: And proceeded to punch the new cdl :biggrin_25512:

After much discussion and a few ph calls the DOL man decided someone prob forgot to put in the computer that the CA lic was turned over when we moved to WA. :banghead: Sooooo hubby received a temp, and got to pay $10 for a new lic. without the "must wear corrective lenses", that was supposed to have been removed to begin with.

Guess better to sort it out now than have it pop up out on the road. Hubby goes out with is mentor tomorrow. :biggrin_255: The mentor is heavy haul out of Sumner. Nice since this was what hubby was interested in (ty Palazon).

    Cookie,
you are welcome for the Hvy Haul tips.

In HH, most of his outbound loads will be to Costcos. I found the Google Earth program to be very helpful. He can use it to take a look at his delivery point from the air and decide on a best path to the docks through the parking lots. Of course this would require a laptop and probably an air card.

He'll probably start with reefers in a Volvo. He should carry vice grips, a hvy hammer (2-3 lbs) and tire chalk for adjusting tandoms on his trailer. When these trailers are loaded heavy, the pins can be stubborn....:biggrin_255:
