Don't you guys have directions written by drivers on the QC? We had a routing and also a mac for directions into each facility written usually by drivers...

Yes we have (in my case, had) routing provided via qualcom. My point on the program is that it's very nice to get a visual of the dock. This way you approach from the correct side, etc. It can take a lot of the new drivers stress out of going to new locations. It's not needed, it's just a helpful tool.

For example, I carried a laptop with MS Streets and Trips. I would plug my qualcomm route into the program. That way I could see the street names before and after my scheduled turns, IE "2 blocks after Market st, I turn left on Waller", etc. Just don't use it to decide routing unless you have the trucker's add-on (Truck Stops Plus).

Cookie: I don't remember the instructors name, but the guy who does the Medford run is good. Nice 400 mile run, good hills, and enough city driving to get some experience. With a HH instructor, he'll most likely get Medford, Bend, Spokane, or Lewiston deliveries due to the distances. Bend is only 300 miles but the mountains are a beast. He should talk his mentor into at least one Bend run later in training for exp. If you can do US-26 over Mt Hood in winter with 60k in the box.. you are ready to solo.

Hey Cookie how's the hubby doing?? How long are Swift drivers out?? I was told 10-14, is that true. I love trucking but 4-6 weeks out with 3-5 days off is a deal breaker for me w/ kids. I was pre hired w/ Swift but went elsewhere. I was told that they have the best hometime, just wondering if thats the case or recruiter talk. Good luck to you and your hubby~Liteguy

Hubby left here about 5 pm yesterday with a load of paper. I'm not sure where the load is going, they will be going over Snoqualmie Pass today. His mentor (Jason) seems to get into Lewiston fairly often. (nice for a day or two hometime).

Liteguy, new students are out for about 6 weeks. Hometime depends on the mentor. In hubbys situation it doesnt look like it will be too bad. His mentor pulled into lewiston friday night and pulled out sunday afternoon. And it sounds like they will be thru again next weekend for a day or so.

Hopefully hubby will have time for a longer call later today and I will get more info to post.

He has been enjoying it alot. He has been getting home for a day or so each week, which is nice. :biggrin_25525: Although this week they have been off since Saturday (today being wednesday). :biggrin_2556: Took the truck in to get something replaced and it took 2 days to get it, then something else was found and its been more waiting for more parts :biggrin_25510:

But he has been able to get some stuff at home done :biggrin_2559:

Just to elaborate on his runs, he runs heavy haul out of Sumner Wa. He goes from sumner to coeur d'alene to lewiston Id. They do mostly costco runs, with a run from the papermill in Lewiston now and then.

He's managed to drive in snow, high winds and rain. And now finally some nice weather.
