Yes to that sir! I'll take any load any where, I'm a truck driver and that's how I get paid and how I get home.

If they pay you .50/mile for the short ones and drop/hook it's okay. I don't know about you but dock time is free and two hours getting loaded, two hours unloading, two hours loading, two hours unloading is eight hours you spent on a dock in a work day making zilch. I'd rather drive long haul any day keeping them wheels turning. I'll do a short one to relocate where a long one is at is the only way.

Once Swift had me pick up a load north of DC and take to Richmond for a live unload. When I got there the trailer wasn't ready for my drop & hook so I sat for two hours. Beltway traffic was bumper to bumper and when I got to Richmond it was 4 hours getting unloaded. I got 118 miles in and it took over 10 hours. I hated that day. My DM heard about it. Next load was over 1,000 miles. I didn't mind taking a bullet, but it better be backed up with a nice run.

This is hubbys first full week on his own so we will see how things go over time. Up till now he has had no real complaints. Swifts heavy haul division in Sumner WA is mostly short loads, 300 or less (Palazon correct me if I am mistaken). They cover WA, OR and ID.

No idea how long between home time yet. His mentor had a dedicated run and they were home every weekend. Don't think hubby will be that lucky for a while, which is ok, running for a few weeks solid should help get some money back in the bank. :biggrin_2559:

That's what I meant with my post. A lot of times, a short run will end up where a long run begins.

Dead on accurate, ma'am. And he'll be home most weekends. On Friday night they'll try to aim him near home. As most Costco's recieve 2 dry loads a day and 1.5 wet (reefer) loads, odds are pretty good.

For those of you who flinch at the 300 mile runs, remember Swift uses a sliding payscale. Those on HH live on that scale.

The short runs do get you to a better place. Not the first time, but I started my week on Sunday after hometime. Took a load that was accepted by my DM on Friday from Lancaster Tx, to 3 stops, rio grand city, mission, and edinburg Tx, (driver unload too, insulation :( 550 paid miles. Today took a short one from Pharr tx, to Laredo, was told if i took it there would be something good waiting for me. No sooner that I sent empty call in, I got a preplan for 1400 miles to S.C... does pay off...BigT
