Well I got the place to stay thing handled, I can't go into it much but it will work out well. Do you happen to have a list of places you would go? If you want to just PM me, thanks.

Things are going pretty good so far. For now, I'm just riding shotgun, and learning the area, paperwork, and doing all the swamping that I can. It's true, that it's not hard work...it's just work....unless of course, yer a roustabout:biggrin_2559: This week, I've been getting on average, 14 hours a day, and managed to get 54 hours in for my first pay check. Cleared about 750 for 4 days of work...can't wait to see a full pay period running these hours.

I don't have my driving authority yet, but after next week, I should be getting some wheel time in. They're sending me, and 2 others over to San Angelo, for a week of truck training. Will be taking a company truck, get paid travel time, hotel, and a per diem for meals. (steak dinners all week, baby!) while it won't make for a typical pay period, the additional training will be worth it.

In short, I'm rather fortunate, that we got a good group of guys at our yard, and the trainers I've been out with, have been really helpful, likely since I'm really wanting to learn as much as I can, and not afraid to get my hands dirty.

This. Getting a job here is a non issue...hit every place you can, and be patient. Some will hire you on the spot, others do take some time, for example, I applied at Key Energy a month ago...they just called me this Wednesday asking if I was still interested in a position.

I'm tellin ya, folks, you will get work here...might not be with who, or exactly what ya wanna do, but take what ya can, get some experience, then see if those doors to better opportunities don't start opening up. Housing is pretty much the hardest thing to deal with, but it is doable.

Nabors Well Service in Iraan Texas, was one of the worst yards too work for,But now we have a new yard manager things are look real good.

All the trucks have be to sign off by the manager or truck pusher before leaving the yard, must be abel pass D.O.T. each time leaving the yard or it's in the shop.

The new manager (Troy) is spending alot of money on the trucks and the yard.

They are looking to hire a few more mechanics for the shop.

Housing is free, but only can stay in the travel trailer for 3 months.

The only draw back is your family can't stay in the trailer with you or even visit you at the trailer and it's very hard to find a house to rent out here. There's nothing to do out here but to watch the catus grow.

Not long ago, I was in the same boat, fresh outta school, and coming down to Texas, based in part from what I read about others, here. There's plenty of companies here to try, but the only ones I have knowledge of, that would look at me as a new driver, was Nabors, and Key. Might wanna hit Nabors first, and hopefully you get a call right away, as it took a month for Key to get back to me. Best of luck to ya.

Can't say for certain as to where to go, it's all up to you. If you got experience, then I would think that you can have your pick as to who ya get hired with. As for getting a minimum of 60 hours a week, I'd say that wouldn't be much of a problem around here...I myself, got 73.5 hours last week just runnin M-F
