My Dad told once when I was a kid before old enough to drive that you can almost double the suggested speed on on a yellow sign usually. He was referring to driving a 4 wheeler though. LOL

 

Some times the lightest loads are the hardest loads.

In the old John Hopkins Hospital we used to have manned Motor Cars (Manual Controlled with Motor Man (Or Girl) inside elevator. Back in the late 60's all was well. However they went to automatic cars with buttons I could never stand them #### things. It's something I wrestle with to this day. How do I deal with it? Well....

They are always good to the last drop. And despite my fear of the automatics, Ive learned all about them as much as possible to the last detail over my life time since then.

 

don't believe everything you read. While it isn't unheard of to hire a few guys from the local day labor/temp places for those extremely complicated tarp jobs, it isn't exactly common place. Probably less than .1% of all open deck drivers have been a part of that tote of move.

I've been part of open deck trucking in one form or another since the late 80s, and i have never heard of a 'union tarper'. Union lumpers yes, union tarpers? I'll believe that when i see it with my own eyes.

 

That place sucks. I will never ever ever go there again. Once was enough.

 

Idk specifically union or not. Lotta Sheetrock plants have a dedicated tarping crew. Usually a subsidiary of one of the House carriers. If you don’t work for that carrier they charge for the service. ($25-30 I want to say) I don’t recall that you paid cash tho; billable to carrier.
Idk what the repercussions are if you don’t pay as a carrier, I wasn’t one at the time I saw that.

They did a poor job too: just laid the tarps out, front over back, bungeed corners up off the ground and “GET THE #### OUTTA HERE, YOU’RE BLOCKING THE BAY!”

 

Just crawl on your hands and knees and keep your head down so you can't see off the egde.

More and more places are setting up tarping stations. Either it's an I beam with a cable fall arrestor that hooks up to a a harness on your body, or an overhead crane setup to pull the tarps up and over the load.

It's hard d to say how much you will need to get on top. It depends on who/where you work and what kind of account they have, what kind of places you pick up from.
