Well, if you want to be real specific, there aren't but a couple true coast to coast outfits left, if you mean companies that run a lot of single runs all the way across. But when I ran for Melton, I had lots of loads from Des Moines to Portland, OR and Astoria to Eastern Tennessee and Kentucky, and several from Long Island to Utah. I had occasion to run from Gypsum, CO to someplace in Wyoming, then to Portland, ME. If it wasnt for the "no preplan" dispatch I might still be there. I used to sit sometimes for two or three days waiting for a load.

Its not on topic but i gotta ask. Melton is a starter company. Why would you want to stop be there even if it wasnt for the sitting between loads. There is no career advancement at a place like melton. A guy could certainly choose a worse company to start with, so I'm not saying they are crap like western express. I'm just saying the plateau is rather low.stwik Thanks this.

Coast to coast runs are not a large part of Melton. I’ve done more coast to coast in a single month of where I’m at now than I did in over a year at Melton — a very large part of their customer base is east of I35. The only “coast to coast” runs I did at Melton was Los Angeles to Georgia and Fresno to Georgia. That’s it. The vast majority of their freight is under 1500 miles.
I’ll never go back for reasons of my own. I don’t think theyre an awful company by any stretch but they leave a lot to be desired.
There are quite a few coast to coast companies that run open deck. The thing is... they’re not running stick and brick freight...cke Thanks this. -
I'm always doing the same, I try to be gentle enough that the load will stay put even if there were no tiedowns...
I know it pisses people off that get stuck behind me, but hey, there's gonna be a much bigger backup if I dump my load on that curve!Bean Jr. Thanks this.
