I70 W about 215 miles east of our 90. Just switched drivers. I drove for the past 10 hours. Got us a little over 500 miles today.
I graduated from trucking school a little over a week ago. Today marked the beginning of the end of a long journey. I am on my first OTR run. Today I; Learned a new truck Drove a little over 500 miles Negotiated a roundabout Drove through a toll plaza Did a very LONG 3 point turn in a residential area Made a u-turn in a dirt lot (GPS to blame) Added Kansas to my state list And most importantly ended 18 months of unemployment. As I type this hurtling down the hwy (no I'm not driving now), I am pleased with the decision to change careers. I think I like it more todaythan yesterday.
That's what its all about driver, loving what you do and you will never work a day in your life........
Naw... its the little voices coming out of the box - "Go ahead, you can make a u-turn..." "Come on, ya know ya want to..." "It's OK... Uncle Don ain't watchin..." "You'll really like doin' that..." "It'll... feel good!"
I know if we would have relied on my trainers GPS we would have been going in circles and never getting to our destination. We would be driving across the front of the truck stop, looking at the drive way less then a hundred yards away, and it would say that we passed our destination. Then it would start telling us a soon as it was safe to turn around. LOL I started to wonder if someone on the other end could see us and was messing with us. ROFLMAO GPS is like any other electronic device, it is a wonderful tool to HELP; but it does not replace common sense and thinking.
We knew something was off because we knew the onramp was close and LEFT not right but newbie mistake. Hey, it was my first run !
