Maybe this is the reason the reefer outfits are so quick to screw their drivers. These outfits know those drivers won't be hanging around long, as the docks suck so badly no one in his right mind would want to stay. If drivers are going to be quitting anyway, screw 'em over. Is this what they're thinking?

That was one of the first receivers I went to when I worked for KLLM back in the early 90's.

I said to myself, what the h-e-l-l have I gotten myself into? You had to pay to get in and then pay to get unloaded and were told to leave and come back 8hrs later because they did not have room to unload us till then. So we come back 8hrs later and they wanted 10 bucks more to get into the gate. I did not quit then but after I switched to dry van I slapped myself silly for ever driving refer.

If I was sent to Wegman's more than once every five years I would quit. They are hands down the biggest a-holes I've ever dealt with. I had a student driver get irritated with me because he need to buy some foods and I drove past wegmans not letting him spend his $$ there. When in my truck thou shall support thine cause ######!!

I went to Food Lion once a long time ago. I told dispatch if they ever attempt to send me there again they could come get their truck. I wouldn't really have done that but I was so PO'd at the time I didn't care.

Thanks for the warning about reefers and grocery wharehouses. I know I hate going to them with dry loads, now I know those reefers have it even worse. I love how they are getting around the Supervalue lawsuit. "You don't have to use a lumper, but we only have powered lift jacks. If you are certified to use a powered lift jack you can unload your own trailer, otherwise you have to have us do it." It's loads of fun also working out how to deliver a load that picks up at 10 a.m. and delivers at 2 a.m. Then your next load picks up three hours away at 11 a.m.

I don't know how many miles you have under your belt...

Can't be too many, cuz automotive and paper are some of the best miles out there.

    # zentrucking:

I think if you re-read his message, you'd see he wasn't saying that those runs offer poor mileage. I think he's saying that automotive runs should be avoided because the industry's failing. The same claim can be made for the paper industry (anyone who's ever hauled out of Quebec or the Maritimes knows exactly what I mean). And sure, some paper mills can be as aggravating as a grocery distribution centre. Their safety regulations are sometimes tediously regimental; they push too hard to maximize payloads; their docks (and the customer's) are sometimes nightmares; ...and they stink (Papier Masson in Masson, PQ, anyone?).

There are up sides to pulling a refer, people have to eat, more frieght, we haul dry loads back, more miles. Many of the grocery wharehouses are no different than dry wharehouses, some good, some bad, and some just down right crooks. Worst part of refer is picking up produce in california, loads are never ready on time, and english is a foreign language. I have not been to cali in 6 months. :)
