In like Flynn. Got my truck, did my road test, waiting on whiz quiz. Looked at the board for the first time, eyes popped out of my head. Can't wait to get my feet wet. As expected, Denver sucks but you can get 2.25 going in from Phoenix and I still don't know if it's worth it. Of course those are multi stop loads. Light though. I'm giddy.

I love having a secure lot to park my truck in on home time. Everybody was cool. My class was small. Road tester was laid back. Schneider is uptight about safety and there are a lot of wonky paperwork rules, but love the idea of the workflow. Being paid before submitting paperwork is awesome. In by Monday paid by Friday. They are deadheading us to the middle of nowhere to pick up empties but they're paying us 1.20 a mile to bt to the mt. The only thing that didn't work on my truck is the qualcomm...it shuts off as soon as I turn the key off. Hopefully get it fixed tomorrow. Will let you know if my head explodes while trying to plan loads properly so I can make a buck.

Phoenix to Denver is probably frito lay. Tough to get. Also not multiple stops just routing points you must follow or take chance on bags of chips popping and you paying a claim.

That's kind of what I figured. If picking loads was like shooting fish in a barrel, there wouldn't be so many complaints and people wouldn't be struggling and frustrated.

Denver is typically a bad market no matter what you pull..reefer,flat or van...always has been...just as long as you get good enough rate going in to cover a dh out if need be...

I'm not trying to turn this in to another freightwhipper thread but I'm going to keep it updated in case anybody is interested. Got my work assignment to pu my mt in Albuquerque. It's a dead zone. I decided to eat it on my first load and head back to Phoenix, then do a 34 for a fresh 70. I booked myself out from Monday until next Friday in about 5 minutes out of Phoenix. Not uber revenue but I'm trying to take it slow and learn lanes and customers while my lease payment is deferred.

Do what you're doing. Run wild long enough to know what not to do.
I wish you the very best

Well it certainly is great to have your own rig i'll answer your questions with one question why are you asking all these questions after you've already signed up? While there's nothing wrong with the actual questions it would seem you've decided to go ahead with your idea before finding out the facts, so you would of been in orientation for about 5 days now are they filling you in on all the facts? If not do they allow you to ask any questions? With regards to saving fuel the best way to save is drive slower, each mile per hour you run slower will help your economy rate, also the less idling you do at truck stops and fuel stations the more you'll save. In the winter if its not freezing cold why do you need to run your heater and burn lots of fuel i used to sleep in my sleeping bag which was very warm. A truck idling for 8 hours to heat or cool your cab will use roughly 8 gallons say $16 per night x 365 = $5840 obviously this is a guide line no one will actually run all year long.

Orientation is a burn and turn. They can't possibly fill you in on everything you need to know in 4 days...not even close. People actually doing it are the one's who have the real info. I have an apu so idling isn't an issue. I'm coming from another lease so I'm not unfamiliar with leasing a truck. I just would like to hear the experience of other current o/o's, customer info, etc. Lot's of stuff that orientation can't really touch upon.

I'm picking up at Tractor Supply in Casa Grande on Monday to start. Suppose to be a drop and hook...are they usually ready on time or do they push it to the end of the window? People who go there all of the time would know this. Good info to have.

Another KR disciple. Whatever man. Do you own your own truck. No? Didn't think so. And the reason is because you spout theory, rather than advice .
Go burn one with Mr. Ken, and leave the rest of us alone
