in photo 1,
zoom in on the white sign, something about trucks ?? I can't make it out.
Very lucky driver !!!!! -
Gee, I liked that comment..."The intersection has been the scene of many accidents involving trains and tractor trailers over the past few years. Straughn said many drivers are not familiar with the area, following GPS directions or turning the wrong way out of nearby interstate truck stops."
Do you suppose, that since they probably don't have the money to fix the crossing, they could at least put up a sign warning truckers?simplyred1962 Thanks this. -
Thats for trucks going the opposite way. Is there a sign on the OTHER side?
(I doubt it) -
#### that driver is lucky that all that happened was the trailer got cut in half.
I wonder if Windy Hill is gonna can him after that one

Emulsified.......
Even if it is not marked, what do the regulations say about r/r crossings ????
Anyone have any idea ?? -

O O O O I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pick me! Pick me!
Slow down open your window, look both ways, and don't stop or shift on the tracks! and Hazmat loads must stop before crossing...
Did I get it?

American Trucker123456 Thanks this. -
There are two regs reguarding RR crossings. One where a CMV is required to stop (such as HazMat loads) and one where the truck is required to slow. (virtually all other crossings.)
This doesn't say it's a hazmat load, so I think we can think of it as the other reg.
The reg (392.11) a truck must slow, acertain it's safe to cross and be able to stop before the tracks in the event it isn't safe.
Sometimes it's hard to determine the grade may be difficult to cross (or unsafe) when approaching and not stopping.
From the looks of this one, I suspect the driver should have seen the angle of crossing and declined, but I only have the one picture to go by. I'm not there.
However, the news article said this is an ongoing problem, so there is a strong suggestion a driver may not be able to determine the crossing hazard.
I simply ask, why isn't there a sign warning drivers of low ground clearance for large vehicles? Why isn't there a sign indicating a problem at the truck stop (i.e., Truckers: Low Ground Clearance .8 Miles ahead to Left), or whatever.
There is more to this than a driver. It's happened too many times before.simplyred1962 and 123456 Thank this. -
This accident is 100% driver error,
signs or not !!!trucker_101 Thanks this.
