Hey Java Joe... I hope things go good for you up there. I was with CRST but things went really bad there. So I too have been dealing with getting my application done with W/S and so far it looks like I will be there hopefully on the 3rd also... I hope things go right. Do you know if everyone gets to take a plane up there? Im in So Cal.

Hey Koolkid, hope you can make it. They will pay for your bus fare up to Missoula, or if you decide to fly, you can book a flight and they will reimburse you for the amount of the bus fare to pay for the flight. I think I had to pay an additional $40 or so to fly... well worth it if you ask me. Good luck.

I made it back home today. It feels great to be back at home. It feels a little odd but good.
I finally got rid of that auto-shift truck with all its problems. I got a manual this time and I feel like I'm back in truck driving school learning how to shift again. But I will get the hang of it. It has been an up and down experience. I am really starting to like truck driving. For a little while there I was on the verge of giving up, thinking I made a mistake. But as I get more and more used to being out, I am starting to like it more. I would not go out without a GPS or something to find your way around.
This new truck I got has some issues, but nothing I am going to put in the shop for now. Need to get miles and start getting some money. I have even thought about team driving to get more miles.
I haven't got out east yet but I am hoping I will soon. I would like too. I have been stuck going up and down I-5 but at least I'm moving. Santa Fe Springs is becoming my second home. I have ran into some of the people from my 10 day program there, so that makes it ok. I hope to get an inverter so I can get a fridge and microwave and tv for the road. It will make it a little nicer out on the road.
I have a few tight back ins, one that I had to do a u-turn going bacwards in a lumber yard with little space to turn, only to find out that I didn't need to back in there. I was not happy about that, but it was good practice. Other than that nothing to bad as far as backing. I will update more later, I want to relax for now. Be safe.

Harley, sounds like your starting to enjoy it here, i run short haul outa sayreville nj, its nice to hear that your eager to get to the east coast, ever been here?, if not youll enjoy it, and then youll hate it, the North East, if you make it to sayreville, dont let them no you enjoy it a lot or they will have you running some local, or short haul while you wait on a load, and i dont think youll enjoy running into the bronx or brooklyn, and if you think youv backed in to some tight spots, you should see a lot of these places we have to back in, i always take pic of what we have to do, and i always leave my camera in my truck... one of these weeks ill remember to bring it home, and ill post the pic i have, if and when you make it out here, 1710, look for me.
take care, and best of luck

Bet they've got some nasty little furniture stores for you to be delivering at soon2be. Also sounds like you're in a sleeper tractor! What a brave man to be tackling the bronx and queens all the time. Do they still pay you mileage and piece count pay or hourly?

no no no!!! :biggrin_25516: i dont do the bronx all the time, only gone there one time, and i was sooooo not happy about it. i usually run upstate new york, and even theo the rds up there are wide and not traveled quiet like New England states, the places we delver to up there remind me of trying to back into a in the bronx, i did drive in the bronx and brooklyn and manhat. and LI, while i was training for 2 weeks with a local driver, in a day cab with a pup, and then they put me in a sleeper with a 53'. most of the places we go to we should not have a 53' WITH a sleeper, but hell, im just a driver ya no? im not a dispacther that sits in an office all days who doesnt see what these places look like.....hmm...
i do love my job tho!!

But hey, that's Watkins Shepard for you. Welcome to it! If it werent for the learning quick how to do some real backing up when I started there, I dont know if I'd be half as efficient at my current LTL job.

I have not been east coast yet. I would like to stay down south east, stay warm. I am not looking to go to the Northeast. I have heard a few nightmare stories about NJ and that area. I will not push for that area.
I just went to check on my truck and the dam thing won't start. The battery is dead. I don't know why you can't leave the truck for more than 24hrs and then not be able to start it. Now i am going to have to jump start it. I'm not sure if I can even do that with my personal truck. Other wise I will have to call someone to come jump it and that is just going to be a pain in the butt. Even more on a Sunday. I just want a truck I can depend on, is that too much to ask for from this company. Oh well, what can you do.
