Hey Brick i hear what your saying, the cold nights and the hot days, i cant really compare any of those stories cause i run my truck just about all the time, now that i have had the highist ideal for last month i figure id shut my truck off more now then i ever have, but when its cold my engine stays on all the time,
your pretty much going to get the same idealing rules at just about every company you go too.
you may get lucky and end up in a truck that happens to be open that just so happns to have an APU on it, doent mean its going to work, or work all the time, specially now that winter is here and they run more now then the rest of the year.
can i ask what company u work for now??

I'm working for Central Ref. right now, but I hope to change that soon. -
What exactly are you sick of?
Maybe we can help you get a heads up before you come here and maybe run into a problem that may follow you anywhere in the industry.
All you have to remember is Watkins and shepard signs the checks, If you understand that and remember you work for them and not they work for you, you will do just fine.
As for other guys that have never drove,
Like Soon2be says, Remember that you and you alone are responsible for everything.
Nobody "makes" you do anything. Load gets shifted, "you" shifted it.
If your a whiner with a bad attitude, please dont apply.
We all get along pretty good and look out for eachother. We dont need any lazy or bad attitude cry babies sucking up good miles.
I know Ive been at missoula and heard the way some of the jerks talk to the recruiters and it makes me sick.
These recruiters are trying to help YOU get a good job.
we arent a cdl mill, we are a industry respected company with a good service and safety record.
people call in with terrible work history and bad records and or health and then get mouthy with recruiters trying to help them.
If your a hard working, well mannered person, this is aplace for you.
Truckings a job, not a lounge chair on wheels haha. -
Hey...I actually saw GRASS on monday...finally. At the house now, and I still have a nasty truck. No sense washing it in the rain...my thoughts. But my floorboard is clean
I provide a service for which "A" company pays me for. A service which can be provided to any of over 10,000 other companies.
The check is the least of my concerns, I can get a 20% increase in pay this week, at another company. The quality of my overall treatment, is what keeps me.
I've only worked for one other company that treated me better than W&S. I can return to them at any time. But the pay is lower, hard to believe I know. But, that company allows you to do as you please. They list the loads daily, you select the load you want, go where you want, when you want. Out of 5 years , I missed only a handful of weekends at home.
On average. I made about the same there as I do at W&S. The work was harder, and there's always the possibility of loosing your CDL due to extremely hot logs. When I got home, they won't call to see if you still work for them, until 14 days had passed. I took off when I wanted, for as long as I wanted.
I calculate the check like this. They (W&S) pay roughly 15% less than industry average...as part of my therapy fee. So they get to listen to me whine...for free
Not all jobs....are equal. Some are more than a signature on a paycheck.
Any company can sign a check. All companies will screw you the first chance they get, if you let them.ScooterDawg Thanks this. -
That has to be one of the best Quotes i ever heard..............

I can tell you this... I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Roxy. She came across as a very genuine person, actually interested in talking rather than reading from a script. And my understanding from what others have said/posted, is that this would be a company that would treat you well and work WITH you. Granted, not the biggest paycheck in the world, but sometimes happiness does have a little more going for it than an extra $150/wk.
I would check 'em out. What have you got to lose? -
roxy is a very honest person, she's not out there to B/S anyone in the company, she wont do that, she will tell you nothing but the truth, she's not like most other,
Working here you are not just a number to these people, its mid-size, everytime you call someone, they ask your truck number, pull you up in the computer, and they are looking at a pic of you, and they call you by your name here, i agree with Light, if your someone that is going to whine (which im not saying YOU, but anyone concidering working here ), then you should look past this company, they dont have time for you, and they dont want you here, heck! I dont want anyone nasty comig here, iv met some weird ars people that drive here, but everyone iv met are fairly nice people, nobody pushes the other person around, im talking DRIVERS, the dispacthers job is to push you as far/hard as you can. -
Dance i stopped in Md for the night the other day and washed my truck, but it was not a blue becon so it still looks lik crap. she'll be shinnin again in no time!!!
and my god were my floorboards nasty!! scrubbed the heii out of them, look pretty good now but still have a dirty truck!!!
