msm, nicely put,any new driver heading to w/s will realize that when they get here.
also, you said you didnt no what questions to ask: the only wrong question to ask is the one NOT asked. iv read some really awesome questions, and some plain old stupid questions, but they all get the answeres they are looking for.
scooter dont be done with this, i no your talking about th thread and what has taken place above, but the heck with it. keep posting back.

Oh I am still around.... what I meant is that I am done having to defend (or at least feeling like I have to defend) what I posted. So, in essence, I'm done defending my feelings about how I feel about W/S's school and how it would fit into my world. Actually, I just received the phone call that I had been waiting for before making my final decision about school.
On the flipside, my school is not on W/S's list, so I will have to cut my teeth and then if they offer better opportunity down the road, I'll be there.
By the way folks.... If you have the opportunity to take advantage of W/S and their training program / employment, I recommend you take it! Unfortunately circumstances beyond my control prohibit me doing so at this time. But everything I hear about them is great, and trust me, I have done my homework!
S2B - Starting school 1/5/09 here in Raleigh. And there will be a thread started..... I promise!
Ya'll be safe! -
including this one on occasion...
I try not to feed the trolls online, but sometimes I just have to ask for a source.ScooterDawg Thanks this. -

smash, if you worked const out there, then u should have no problems driving a truck here, or anywhere, right now out in the mid-west area they are having temps drop below 0 at night, taked to a driver the other day, her tanks geled up on her, along with a few other drivers she got stuck on the side of the rd with.
its a good company.
just dont forget, every company has there good/bad/ugly
watkns just happens to have more good then anything els. good luck wit school.
your starting at the right time of year, they will show you first hand how to drive in the snow, and all that fun stuff that comes along with it!! -
Yeah if things work out like I want them too, well.... you never know, huh? -
The cold hasn't been a huge deal. A lot of the time you're inside or in a truck anyway. But I came from Mississippi and I'm surviving except for some really dry skin (lathering in lotion is helping some). The yard is like a skating rink right now, but we're still driving. We did have to put chains on to hook a trailer yesterday though
It is a big shock to a Mississippi boy when the thermometers are reading -7F. And it warms up to 6F.
We're leaving the trucks idling at night to keep the fuel from gelling. They discourage idling when it isn't necessary (of course) but if it's under 10F, they tell you to go ahead and idle.ScooterDawg Thanks this. -

The phone thing was a joke.
At the time I had just cleared a nasty ice storm near St.Louis.
Was driving along 40 degrees and rain and then within about a mile the rain turned to ice and the temp dropped to 20. Roads turned to pure ice.
I was stopped in St Joe after putting on fuel and taking a well deserved breather.
65 mph pretty much wasnt possible let alone using the phone.
The whole point of the post was that there is a lot more to driving than getting a cdl.
Doesnt matter how good the school is, its a whole new ball game once you leave the yard on that first run.
Scooter Im glad you thought it was a good chance to launch a personal attack at me.
Keep in mind im from your area.
In fact i used to live in the apartements behind lowes where 401 and 1 split in north raleigh.
I did my own research. Months of it.
I decided to go to school at W/S because of their saftey record.
I figured if they can teach their own drivers and put them into their rigs without a contract and still maintain a safety record as good as they have then I couldnt go wrong.
I like how you labeled me, talked about competition and driving truck.
Its no race. I know that. Shoot truck only goes 65 and many states thats over the limit for us.
I spend most of my time in the right lane enjoying life and listening to tunes.
I wont even answer the phone while im driving, unlike most drivers.
I love this job, this life style and everything it has to offer.
Ill be ###### if im gonna risk it by driving a little fast. Its not like im goinng to get there any faster.
Better safe than sorry.
Im mean if stats and competition are a big deal, my roommate and I did tie with the best scores in our class on the DMV test, but we all agreed that that doesnt matter, we ALL passed first try.
But its whatever, we are a different type round here.
My best wishes, Scooter, Sir.ScooterDawg Thanks this.
