I'm in a 2012 Cascadia and I can't get the SWR below 1:17 using a Wilson 2000, would a Wilson fiberglass antenna with tunable tip or a Firestik II help in this situation? I have tried the grounding strap with no change.
Thanks

How are you measuring the SWR?
-
With a external meter that I bought.

are you using the factory mount? if so, look in to getting the mirror bracket or the "out back" bracket. the mirror bracket is at http://www.toolfetch.com/wilson-ant...333035353030&gclid=CLqxr8GslbsCFYVZ7Aod_jAA6Q
and other cascadia mounts are at http://www.walcottcb.com/cb-antenna-mounts-trucking-antenna-mounts-c-377_28_436.html -
I modified the factory mount by taking the outer portion off so that there is only the flat plate which bolts to the side of the sleeper, I increased the hole so that the new coax would fit through it since it had the small coax from the factory. I then bought a L-shaped bracket which I mounted to the flat metal plate which I mounted the Wilson 2000 to.

Based on what I have read, the fiberglass antenna would work better but does not take the same amount of power as the Wilson. I run a Galaxy 29 which pushes 40 watts which shouldn't be a problem, but will it be affected by other drivers who are running amps on their radios? I am knew to this and still trying to learn what I can.
Between the two; Firestik II and Wilson fiberglass (both are 4 ft and have a tunable tip but the Wilson has a ground cable as well) which one would you recommend? -
I like the Skip Shooter. Looks like it has a nail in the tip.....because it does and it is tuneable. I buy mine from Ray in W. Memphis. (CB shop across st from McDonalds.) They are made in Mississippi so I'm guessing you can find one in the South. Oh yeah, come in lengths up to 6 or 7 ft. I forget which.... I use a 5 ft.
