350 powerstroke. i have it about 2-2.5' above my cab it comes in okay but i want more if i can i have the mount grounded to the frame and clamped on my back rack

Wilson 1000 magnet mount. Many think a magnet mount don't work well. From experience, they're one of the best antennas. Just make sure to get the SWR right and put the antenna in the center of the roof.
EZ Money and UTI TRANSPORT Thank this. -
If you are unwilling to drill or punch
a two or three inch hole in the center
of the roof. This also involves routing
the coax between the headliner and the
roof. I would agree with the wilson mag mount. -
The hole is needed for a permanent mount,
such as a wilson or the use of a puck mount.
If you want to stay with the power level of an export
(general lee) than the mag mount is the way to go.
If you think you'll progress to a 16 pill amp (unlikely)
than drill the hole for a puck mount. -
I own a Wilson 5000 magnet mount and it does well. But it really is overkill if you don't plan on running big watts.
-
I wouldn't run a mag mount for anything over 50 watts or so. I've seen evidence of arcing from a 110W Motorola VHF-Hi radio on a mag mount.
-
One of my real good friends runs 1500 watts through his 1000. Check your facts.

Probably doesn't have any paint left under the magnet.
