Yes let us know your results with the external SWR meter. As far as the base loaded antennas, there seems to be mixed results about them. All I know is back in the 70's, Antenna Specialist come out with a base loaded cb antenna called the big momma. It was a trunk mount antenna and it worked great. The biggest problem today with trucks, is the lack of metal. To make trucks lighter weight, the bodies are fibre glass or maybe aluminum. You have to do some bonding to solve the RF ground problem.
Here's a great link to help with antenna problems.

But there is an advantage to a single antenna on top of a metal roof. Without a metal roof, the two antennas perform great on opposite sides of the truck. This is the only situation I would ever recommend using two antennas

But at the same time 2 ant will change your rf pattern AND on todays trucks with 2 antenna being so close to one another they fight against one another do they not?

No they don't fight each other if they are phased properly. It's impossible to put the 2 antennas 1/2 wave apart, so the next best thing is 1/4 wave a part, or 9 feet. I've read that some guys claim you can put the antennas closer together. The problem with that is that they are changing the phase of the antennas, which in turn changes the RF pattern. If you change the phase angle to 180 degrees, the RF pattern is stronger to the sides of the truck. Of course drivers want more RF gain to the front and rear of their trucks while running down the highway. Like all antenna systems, a decent RF ground is needed.

Edit: I forgot to mention that co-phased antennas don't perform very well on pickups as a rule, due to the antennas being too close together, less than 108 inches or 9 ft.

I have tried(not real hard) to find the explanation that i can understand on phase and how to adjust for it..

Yes if your putting two antenna on most of todays trucks, they are just to close together...I considered running a pair of 102's on my truck but after i thought about it and was told they would be to close to one another,i said to myself "Naw to much extra work and maintaince"..

    Night Stalker10 Thanks this.

Bonding phasing rf pattern 1/4 wave 1/2 wave angle 180* full impulse Scotty give 'er all she's got!

Well, I obviously have some reading to get to before I ask any more questions.

But I know about getting a good magnetic plain, learned it right here, it's all about the ground straps!

Plain plane, talk to Google, lol.

The RF ground plane for a mag antenna.

Another thread, I didn't stipulate that.
