Thank you. I'll get into reading that when I can.
I'm pretty sure my Volvo has a metal cab though.
A 6-7' antenna would need to be mounted lower to avoid overhead obstacles.
Question; can I put the longer first stage on that Wilson trucker 2000 and get an improvement? The part between the mount and the coil is only 3-4" long, but I see them about a 8-10" long.
My issue then would be the mast would be much higher, and would hit overhead stuff. Can I trim the mast down?
I don't mind doing work, I'm just trying to avoid throwing good money after bad.
So far I've only got $25 into that "too long" coax.

Volvo cab is all steel.
Just tune the Firestick to best SWR between ch 1 and 19 where you operate. You don't need a wide banded skipshootin' world wide antenna for your radio!
Just sayin'.....

That would probably be best, and something I didn't consider, thanks.
You must not be far from me, over there in NE OH. -
Right off of 76 near the Ravenna exit.

I deliver to the North Jackson KwikFill pretty regularly. Did a Coshocton Thursday. Do a lot of drops around Youngstown.

When was the last time you saw a purely resistive 50 Ω mobile antenna on a tractor?

The first line of your first post, you said height wasn't an issue, I must of mis-understood. A lot of guys have had good luck with the skip shooters antennas, that's was why I mentioned them. The wilson 2000 antenna isn't a top loaded antenna. You would probably have better results using a Hustler HQ27 55 inch tall antenna instead of the Wilson.Last edited: Sep 20, 2020

Tunnning his firestick antenna is the problem. It's tough to tune a short 2 or 3 foot antenna on any vehicle, let alone a big truck. They only work a little better than a dummy load.

Well as the OP said, he's running a box stock CB, he's basically running channels 1 thru 19, and he's not looking to be a world wide big radio strapper! Basically using it as a tool for his job. A short fiberglass antenna should do him just fine.....IMHO!
