If that's true then, it could just be the antenna warning setting needs calibrating...Those radios don't have a "SWR Warning Light" like some radios have, instead you have to go into the test menu to see if you get a "Fail or Pass"...I'm sure there's a way to re-calibrate the test, but I have never herd of anyone having a problem out of the 29lx's with the test part of the menu...I know on the other 29's there is a pot you can adjust the warning light if it's coming on when it shouldn't, but I'm not sure if the 29lx works the same way...
Just for safty-sake, I would buy a external SWR meter and jumper coax and double check the reading tho...Meters on radios are not always that reliable. -
My antenna test failed.
When I key up in s/rf mode the swr gauge pegs out. But in swr mode it's less than 1.5. Is that normal? -
When your in s/rf mode, and you just Key the Mic, it pegs the meter?
NO...Thats NOT normal...When you Key the Mic in that mode, the needle should move to show your dead key watts, which should be between 3 and 4w's or about half way on the meter...If when you Key the Mic and the needle pegs all the way to the right, you have a problem...
Did you have someone do some work on this radio...Like a "Super swing Peak and tune job" or something? Sounds like maybe someone has turned up the DK too high...If that's the case, then I doubt you'll ever be able to get a accurate SWR reading with the meter on the radio... -
Nope. It's just like it was from the factory.
-
When you just Key the Mic, the needle should only be moving to about 3 1/2 watts which is typically where Cobra sets the carrier.
Just wondering, if when your talking to people, has anyone ever said they hear a squeal in your signal? With the needle pegging all the way to the right, usually when that happens you will be getting a squeal...also if the Talk Back is turned ON, and you have the Mic Gain wide open it could cause a squeal, and peg the meter... -
Nah. Everyone says I sound fine. I dropped gain and talk back to zero and no change.
-
Sounds like a faulty meter then...Maybe worth taking by a CB Shop and having them double check it. I have two of these radios...well, one 29lx, the other is a 29 lx le and haven't had any problems out of them.
-
Hmm. It's still in its exchange window. I think I'll swap it.

There good radios, but since they come from China...Maybe the kid that put that one together dropped his rice bowl on it or something...
I have a Magnum S 45 HP Export radio I bought back in February that didn't work right when I got it, and had to send it back to RF Limited for warranty work...things been back twice now for the same problem, and is still at the warranty shop all because some Chinese Kid couldn't read the instruction sheet when he was putting it together!
I bought the radio after doing allot of research and never seeing anything bad being reported by anyone who had bought one...But the one I ended up with so far has been nothing but a $300+ Lemon...
