I have a Uniden Pro538w that I bought in the mid nineties to use in my pickup. I just had a cheap magnetic base antenna that worked ok for my cross country trips.
Now I'd like to put that cb in my pete 379 boom truck. I'm not looking for super long range. Just need to be able to talk to the folks in the yard house at the lumber company and nearby trucks.
I found the manual and it says it's pushing out 4 watts.

Go with a Wilson 2000.
12 ga and RocketScott Thank this. -
Wilson is a good choice you could also consider Francis they are cheap and they do the job!
RocketScott Thanks this. -
Does it matter between the 5" and the 10" shaft? (Setting myself up on that one)
Thanks -
I was looking at the firestiks too. Seems hard to beat for around $20. I don't want to be cheap about it but also don't want to buy a lot more antenna than I really need.Ougigoug Thanks this.

I'm not a fan of top load, fiberglass antennas. Firestix are a good option for some. I'd go w/the 10" shaft if you decide on a Wilson.12 ga Thanks this.

That's why i did recommend Francis if there is a good ground they work really good for about 20$.
That's what i had at one point in an old classic freight and they work well.Straight Stacks Thanks this. -
Thanks guys. I'll see what I can find locally tomorrow. I was in the Pete dealer today but I'm sure they are overpriced.

If you go with a fiberglass, get the longest one you can get by with.

One more question:
I was assuming that one antenna mounted on my mirror bracket would be fine but should I be worried about the boom sitting over the middle of the cab? Would it be better to have an antenna on either side, assuming I can get them 8' apart?
