In the desert, probably. Here in Mississippi he wouldn’t be heard 10 miles, I promise you that. If people here can’t pick up a radio doing those watts at 40 miles on a 110 foot set of five elements, and another on 180 foot set of fives, he wouldn’t have a chance.

80 watts on 28 makes DX contacts daily from the north east corner of TX. Want a gate? I have plenty.

The power anyone is running is nothing without a proper antenna system, if I’m lying, explain why my numbers get called. Not the same as 4-4-0 in the pile, but 4 hundred 40 out of the Lonestar.

I’m not discounting a man and his 2x8, but saying 100w won’t do a thing on 28 is a lie...

    rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

The desert is the most challenging since the ground is dry. Groundwave Performance in Mississippi would probably double due to the wet swampy ground. I've noticed that my performance always drastically increases during and after a rainstorm.
I'm sure Mississippi gets a lot more rain than the desert

You won't be able to learn much from him. Anybody can go out and purchase a big amplifier. Daryl has a problem with keeping his amplifiers from self-destructing.

Google any interstate in Mississippi and you will see trees everywhere. It may work in theory as far as moisture content, but it certainly doesn't play out in real life. I have run all levels of power and all different antennas, and a barefoot radio isn't going to perform that well here locally. Even if the entire body is bonded, it just isn't happening. That's my 25+ years experience.
