My suggestion is keep useing your ohm meter and pick up a ant analyzer..The rig expert aa30 is a great one if you just hang in the cb band..If you go higher or lower then other versions are available..
Again k0bg.com can help with ant info..

I bought another antenna (K40 3' tunable), slapped it on there and everything is perfect again, no tuning needed. Bad/wrong antenna?
Thanks for every ones help!Meteorgray and SAR Thank this. -
3'?? why not go longer, taller is better in every way unless your taken out over passes n such....Height is might!!
-
I hit too many things. I have a longer Wilson whip mounted on the cab of an 08 F350. I get dirty looks going through the drive through at the bank.SAR and Meteorgray Thank this.

So Oxbow, what's the SWR readings show? They must be below 1.8 to keep that angry red eye from flashing you again.

On 20 the needle didn't move, 1 and 40 just slight movement, probably 1.1 or 1.2
SAR and Meteorgray Thank this. -
Your system suffers the shorter you go..I saw somewhere on line the differences in ant height vs power output of same radio due to inefficiency of ant height..ex nnot accurate just maken a point)..A 50 watt radio with normal losses puts out 45 watt(just maken up #)with 3 ft ant only gets 10 mi but uses all radios power to do so..Same radio with a 5 ft can do 18 mi at 3/4 power...I saw it on line with some sorta bar graph and cant find it now..
Oxbow Thanks this. -
It's working well anyway. And all 3' are above the cab for what it's worth.SAR Thanks this.
