antenna watt question

maybe steved you just got lucky when you upgraded to the 5k from the 1k because they are actually the same antenna, only difference is the amount of power it CAN handle.

 

Of all the Wilsons that I have used (and I think I have owned one of everything that they have made) ALL have performed extremely well. I also used to use a K40 (the first type) on my pickups & it did a great job for me too. The wilson 1000 & 5000 will handle power better if that's your game . I just run BAREFOOT , talk alot of SSB so hearing is everything ! The MOST important thing is grounding your transceiver first . If your vehicle has a steel roof or trunk your are in business, NEXT set the SWR on your antenna to where it is located on the car / truck . If you move the antenna ....check your SWR . YOu set the SWR to the vehicle or the mounting location NOT the radio ! The SWR will change if you move the CB antenna from the roof to the trunk or from the mirror to the back of the cab. The SWR is set after you mount the antenna.

 

Not true, the coil on the W5000 is larger in diameter...the W5000 load is physically larger than a W1000.

And I stand by my statement, it was a noticeable improvement from the W1000 to the W5000.

BINGO! Even if you dont run the power, the antenna is 80% of your system. The higher power antennas are far better constructed and designed much more efficent. Becouse of that, expect a much better reception and transmit. Also the higher the gain the better.

 

Oh.... ok, then im wrong, i was just saying what some guy at a radio shop told me... he seemed to know a lot about his hobby. ... well that and he sold them.

anyway, i run dual 4' wilson silverloads. And i hear and talk great. i talk the same as those with whips and sometimes even hear better.

 

Depends on who your trying to talk to also. Most guys running comparable station as you. Most guys don't even ground there system out. That will reduce your capabilities awful. There is just a lot to it. There is so much into it. Whats your gain and selectivity, whats his gain and selectivity, whats the sunspots doing, what other garbage is on the channel, how high your antennas are (compaired to normal autos and the horizon and the bandwidth of the signal)..... I am not saying your system is bad, those short sticks are good little antennas, but I am just saying there is a difference and its not as simple as "if you don't run the power its not worth it" because thats just not a true statement in the realm of technical gably gook.
