Fuel treatment is needed if only for those with southern blend fuel traveling north during extreme cold spells. Adding 100 gallons of #2 Chicago fuel to 100 gallons of Birmingham fuel, with no supplemental treatment, and heading into 5f or lower temps, you're going to have problems, especially if you can't idle.
Use it when it's needed but I see and hear of many burning lots of money needlessly buying fuel treatment products because it's going to get "all the way down to 20f"
No 1 fuel is not an option for many.
Anti-gel over kill?

I've only ever pulled 2 fuel samples because of engine problems. 1 because we suspected gasoline in the diesel and the other because of what appeared to be washer fluid in the fuel filter. Other than that, I can't recall any other time we pulled a fuel sample.SingingWolf and TheDude1969 Thank this.

And what did the samples tell you?SingingWolf Thanks this.

In late fall,I pull the fuel tanks drain plugs and drain out the water and any other crap at the bottom of the tanks.
Messy job but worth it IMHO.
Along with power service and #1 fuel when it's below zero.
Cheap insurance in my book.Lepton1, MJ1657 and TheDude1969 Thank this. -
No idea. We worked 14 on 7 off shifts. Someone else took over those jobs while on my week off.

Now I'm imagining pulling a couple of plugs out of tanks in a yard full of trucks, at some company that I hate...
Is it really that easy? I've never noticed a plug on the bottom of my fuel tanks...
-
No you have to have a special socket that they only sell to registered shops
-
So... I wonder if I can make me a socket...

I am Chicagoan too. I park my White Volvo 670 in Elk Grove Village. In Winter I look at the Weather Channel app forecast and depend on it with Howes. If I see it drops below 32F then I always fill up (easy: many fuel stops here on RT 83), and if it goes below 20 I would give it a battle of Howes and if lower I'd give it two (one tank each). But you could overdose it. I've seen guys to run into some injector problems in the aftermath of adding too much of that staff, at least that's what the main suspect was. This staff is much cheaper at some retail stores than truck stops. For instance I bought a box at Menards, the price per battle was 9$ with a change instead of 20 $ at truck stops. The problem remains with starting the truck cold on the thick oil. Also batteries may fail too...TheDude1969 Thanks this.

Or a 3/4" drive ratchet. It was that a 1/2" drive ratchet.
Maybe 5/8"wrench. Depends on the tank. I've pulled plugs on fuel tanks and hooked air to them to transfer fuel.TheDude1969 Thanks this.
