An Antique plate on an '83 ? I'm just guessing here, but it IS a motor vehicle, right ? Being driven on a public street, right ? Subject to mechanical failure or an accident, right ? Not exempt from any laws, right ?

If I remember correctly the PA antique tag rules are very specific in how many miles per year you can drive and what you can do or even when. Removing the 5th wheel usually reduces some of these questions. Obviously what the truck says on the door panel will also be a deciding issue, as far as DOT number or not for hire, etc.

I know in AZ. if it moves on public roads it has to have public liability insurance and have a permit for movement. A 72 hour permit to move it to a shop, dmv, etc. but you won't get that til proof of insurance is shown.

Matlack had an old B modle Mack w/ an old Heil tanker that were restored. They had antique plates and were labeled w/the original company name 'E. Brooke Matlack' and we used company drivers to re-locate them for shows and exhibits.

Antique and/or historic plates and 'not for hire' on the door should work. I'd ask your state if you need a fuel tax [IFTA] decal since all diesel mileage is taxable. Get their answers in writing!

yes thats how it is here in pa also i need insurance that will be a little more expensive and in order to take it to any kind of truck shows i will need to get a permit that is good for 24, 48, or 72 hours depending on how much i want to pay for the permit

your correct with all of that. but getting pulled over by a cop for speeding or for something wrong with the truck will it is going down the road is 1 thing. but being hounded by the D.O.T cause i with the antique plate can't haul anything commercial(No loads)...so they shouldn't be able to #### with me..

Maybe register and title it as an "RV"?
