All our new trucks are being ordered with that combination. How does it handle when you are backing and would normally be modulating the clutch?

13 speed and the bigger transmissions are almost a thing of the past with the trucks speed being set so low. i had to drive a rental last week, and it did 65 in 9th and 65 in tenth LOL

Maybe for those of you who only ever pull five axles on the road in a governed truck. Some of us are well past that point.

You mean they haven't dumbed you down yet? You know, it's coming! One day all truck drivers will be dumbed down...just like zombies. Just like the 13s, brains will be a thing of the past, so you may as well get with the program and surrender your brain. You do know that zombies eat brains, don't you?

(If that didn't work, they will appeal to your lazy side)

You know that brains are overrated, don't you trucker? It's only dead weight in your head. Makes your head heavy, causes stress and fatigue. I remember seeing some scientific journal where the most advanced neuroscientists are saying that it would be advantageous to have your brain removed. Brains are the number one cause of cancer. My wife and I used to fight all the time. But I went to the little outpatient center and had my brain extracted. They do it right through your nose. Just slight discomfort. I'm a new man! My wife and I don't even argue anymore because I don't know how. Saved my marriage!

i would highly recommend the brain extraction. The only side effect is lost of bladder and bowel control. So you go around smelling like a sewage plant....it's not that bad.

13+ speeds isn't about top end, it's about keeping your engine at it's most efficient RPM, whether you run at 55 or 75.

Run a thirteen now and wish I had an eighteen. It would be nice to split the bottom pulling smooth bore acid tanker.

The 13 speed has always been my favorite. The nice thing about it is it's adaptable. You never have to work through the box the same way twice, depending on terrain, etc.

If I were running super heavy or off road, I would opt for an 18, but to me, it's overkill for what I do.

I do get to 146,000 lbs. on doubles, but it's easy conditions, from tandem lot to tandem lot - and we do it with 10 speeds.

The 13's aren't popular with fleet applications, because too many guys tear them up with improper splitting.

I know automatics are the rage now, but personally, I can't stand them. Plus, I'd have to change my username here, and I don't want to pick a new one out. :biggrin_25524:

Well truth b known im kinda fond of my 18--but I would prefer a 6x4--so I guess as one poster put it--I have been dumbed down--only one shifter now--course as I've said b4 my dad calls it a ##### tranny-course he also says power steerin is for schoolgirls--but he's really old and cranky---and his 81 359 only gets bobtailed to the waffle house once a week or so to show off to 4 or 5 of his "buddies" from back in the day--and between that bunch they are 3700 years old with a combined 5.5 BILLION Miles........oh yeah and they walked to school--uphill both ways--in the Snow--in central Florida!
    Just sayin:D
