David regarding the situation in FL, here's an email a blogger received on the board I follow:

    Hello Mish,

"That's all folks" is correct and right on the money.

I have a vending business here in Florida. I service manufacturing and many general businesses. All are laying off workers. I have machines that were taking in 100.00 plus dollars a week that are now doing only 5.00 per week.

This drop off is now much worse than in autumn of 2008.

Mish, please tell people to save their money because hell is on the way.

    Charlie

    endzone,

That scares the crap out of me !!!!! Also the fact that I have applied at 3 trucking companies in florida this week.

2 companies said they had a waiting list, and the third company said to check back next spring !!!!

I am most likely going to move up to either Atlanta or Savannah, to try and find work.

I think FL & CA are the 2 states that have been hit the hardest by this huge recession. I'm not trying to scare anybody though. God is greater than any economy. But Atlanta and Savannah are both nice cities.

I talked to this fellow driving the yellow Freightliner tonight as he was parked behind WalMart and Rufe Snow & I-820 in Ft. Worth, TX. He worked for Furniture Row Express out of Denver, CO. But, he had somebody else's trailer and was taking a load of chickens to Americold Storage in Ft. Worth. He said he didn't have any problem letting his truck idle to keep the AC on. He was a younger guy. You can see him in one of the pics. He worked for CRST for 5 years. He said he went through 4 different partners with CRST. One guy never took a shower for 2 weeks. Another guy wanted to stop every 40 or 50 miles and the 2 other guys were wreckless drivers. He also said he could not get a job in Florida right now which is where he was from. I didn't ask him which city in Florida though.

Actually, that was a Furniture Row Express trailer. 95% of all of the loads are reefer loads. They have contracts with Tyson, Pilgrims Pride, and JB Swift. The other 5% of the loads are furniture loads to Furniture Row stores from DC's
