@brokenruger: You are ALWAYS being graded by the people you interact with, whether you like it or not. Saying CDL's in the presence of the wrong person during a job interview may cost you the offer of employment, which will be tendered to the other applicant who pays closer attention to details and is more meticulous. If one cannot (or does not care to take the time to) master the little things, how can one be entrusted with the larger responsibilities?
Can't speak for Maverick or TMC, but when I looked into Boyd they were requiring 2 years of OTR experience.Curly88 Thanks this. -
call Maverick they will work with you.
-
Schneider Also runs flatbed,as does Roehl transport being that your cred's aren't current they may require a refresher course Which is Substantially cheaper than reg driving school. Also remember..... anything related to trucking is tax deductible And any schooling you have to pay for is considered tech/trade school And Also tax deductible.

Local experience counts zilch towards OTR experience. You can plan on going out with a trainer for 3-8 weeks depending how soon the trainer wants to release you and company rules.windsmith Thanks this. -
More than likely you will be required to take a refresher course. There are a couple of dry van & reefer companies that might hire you right now without the refresher. Because of the driver situation these days many flatbed companies no longer require previous OTR experience even though their website says they do. Prime or Swift can probably get you on the road very quickly with their flatbed program; Prime has the nicest equipment if that's important to you. Melton Truck Lines and System Transport are a couple of the best flatbed outfits out there to look at after you get the refresher out of the way.
A few more flatbed companies:
Falcon Transport
System Transport (trans-system)
Melton Truck Lines
Boyd Brothers
Maverick
TMC
ATS
Western Express
Howard Transportation
PGT Trucking
Watkins & Shepard (flatbed division) -
Don't we all?
Best regardswindsmith and CondoCruiser Thank this. -

Swift's Greer terminal is in South Carolina, not North Carolina - Eden was the North Carolina terminal, and that one shut down some time ago.
If you were operating a CMV, it was a safety sensitive function IAW CFR49. That holds true whether it's a USDOT registered company, or if it's registered under a state exemption number. The FMSCR applies to you the same, either way. You're subject to HOS, periodic drug screening, etc. So, on your application in regards to your work history, it may ask, "Were you subject to FMCSR?", "Was this a safety sensitive job function as defined under CFR 49...?". Your answer to those questions will be yes.
Also, states are diverting to a system where you log your DOT medical card with the state DMV. If your state has not yet done this, they will. You will be asked to self identify in one of four categories:
Exempted Interstate
Non-Exempted Interstate
Exempted Intrastate
Non-Exempted Intrastate
Identify as "non-exempted interstate", even if you're intent is to operate in an intrastate capacity. If you've already identified in any of the other categories, you need to go back to the DMV and reclassify that.
And Moosetek is correct - you have no TT experience. You will not be treated as an experienced driver. It shouldn't discourage you if this is the path you wish to take. A refresher course will be required.Shed527 Thanks this. -
Maverick will hire you with only a CDL, no schooling required. You'll go out with a trainer for 4 - 6 weeks. They'll start you out at a much higher pay rate than most student companies. I started driving only 9 months ago and I make .41 cpm now. I drive refrigerated, which starts out a bit higher on the pay scale because our miles are lower due to longer waiting times at customers. But at 6 months you'll be making at least .10 more than any of the big student companies will start you out at.
