Did you ever think some people might prefer shifting? I never even realized until a few months ago that 90% of the trucks out here anymore are all autos. I was still under the illusion everyone shifted gears. It's not a big deal. But I guess if you have a restriction on your license you might think so?

Oh yeah, I've definitely thought that maybe some drivers prefer shifting. That's OK. What grinds my gears(pardon the pun) is all these other scientific explanations as to why one prefers a manual. It don't matter what truck you get in, you gotta familiarize yourself with it....manual or auto. If a driver likes shifting, I'd rather just hear them say, "I prefer shifting" as opposed to all these other weird explanations.

I love when people say that companies use automatics because people no longer can learn how to shift. Like it's some kind of lost arcane art like Greek fire or Roman concrete. If the technology for reliable automatics was around in the 80s, everyone would have switched back then.

I don't really know but yeah they probably don't even order manuals anymore. That was in Jan 2021 and I was of my mindset then most trucks are manual just like mine because everybody I know trucking drives manuals too. I knew Volvo had i-shift and some fleets were autos but I didn't realize how drastically the industry had changed in that regard over the past 10 or 15 years. That begs the question of how the #### did he manage that on flat ground in an automatic?

I briefly worked with a couple ex-Ryder mechanics years ago. Probably lack of maintenance if what those guys told me was true.

So you gonna offer some insight? My post is based purely on my experience. So that would make it an opinion. Therefore it's neither right or wrong. Just an interpretation.
