Anyone using Victoza to help control their type II diabetes?
I'm waiting on my new prescription to get here and hear nothing but good things about this stuff.
Known side effect is weight loss! I like that idea. I'm down to 245 but I like to get down to 200. I've read a few stories of some losing 50 lbs.
Any Diabetics Using Victoza?

I use it, i started with the smallest dose possible for a few days and increased it to normal dose thereafter. On advice from dr, that said it occasionally gave some minor cramps, it works well best to start it at home for the first few days. In case you need restroom facilities close by and in a hurry. Other than that good medicine. Been on it about a year. A1c has been about a 5.5 for the last year, lost about 40 lbs but not sure if that is due to medicine or increase in excercise. Back down to the weight i was before i retired from military 257lbs. Good luck
CondoCruiser Thanks this. -
I'm at home. My A1C was 8.4 and I'm hoping this does the trick. He started me out slow with 0.6 for a week then to 1.2 for a week to 1.8. I think that's how the dosage is on the pen or something like that.
Do you have any issues storing the medicine? One thing I read says it must be refrigerated and another says it's okay between 56*-86*. That part confuses me. -
Is Victoza in pill form ? Sounds like something I would really be interested in.
Jason, What dosage do you take and do you take any other meds with this for Diabetes and also are you taking meds for other things like high blood pressure or statins that might have side affects ? -
the instructions state it must be refrigerated if unopened then you can store at room temp. Always keep mine in fridge in trk or at the house. And always try to take it same time everyday.CondoCruiser Thanks this.

It''s a pen with a super small needle you don't even feel it from what the nurse told me. They gave me a choice between another pill or the Victoza. As soon as the doc told me the weight loss thing it didn't take me a second to decide.
I got use to pricking my finger I'm sure I can deal with that thing.
At first glance it looked like $275 a month. But Victoza has a discount card where you don't pay more than $25 a month. I get mine through Humana and Right Source mail order pharmacy and doesn't cost me anything. A pleasant medical surprise for a change. -
no victoza is not in pill form it also is not insulin so it does not require a waiver from fmcsa, it uses very fine needles even finer than insulin needles. They just screw on to the end of the pen. My dosage is 1.6... I take metformin and glipizide once perday. No other medicines. What i have started doing also this last year and should have been doing it all along. I really like fruits and veggies. My wife bought me a ninja juicer to bring with me on the trk. Have one at the house they work fantastic!. When at home i buy fresh produce and fruit and portion it out for 5 days in ziplock bags, then in morning i put what i want in juicer and blend it up with water and have a smoothie. Now the juicer does not seperate the pulp from juice, it's about the consistancy of tomato sauce. Which by the way the pulp has the fiber so it reduces blood sugar spikes as it get absorbed slower in the body. I know this is more than you asked but figured i would share.

I appreciate all info on here I get and thanks for sharing. I have used the pens before taking Novalog shots with meals and Lantus 1 shot a day.
Went back on Metformin and bought syringes for the Lantus I take 60 units a day and the Lantus pens were expensive and only good for a few injections at 60 units.
I am wanting to get off insulin so maybe I will try Victoza.
Has the Glipizide ever caused a hypo ? Seems like I took that years back and went pretty low but I may be thinking of something else.headborg Thanks this. -
Thanks for the great information gentlemen I too take metformin but told my doc might need a little more help so will see what he says when get to my appointment.
