it is only that the young tend to do the dumb thus what it looks like is not exactly why it looks that way -- those you do not see did youthful things but those who have been running for decades did that stuff someplace else

Well, I passed the big 3-0 about 30 years ago. As a matter of fact, my son passed the big 3-0 eight years ago. Bottom line: It's NOT about age, it's about the person behind the wheel. I'm not "seasoned". I hooked my first solo load August 2010.

There might be a driver shortage on the horizon but, for now, I'm going to keep on doing what I've been doing, i.e., taking freight from Point A to Point B. And, I don't care where Point A is or where Point B is. I'm a truck driver, end of story.

I have noticed a whole bunch of them "old" drivers just look old. Was talking to a guy the other day, I'd have bet he was at least 12 to 15 years older than me. I'm 45. Turned out after talking to him awhile, he was only 45. Made me start hoping I don't look that much older than I am. Guess this job ages ya fast.

Try it at 50, or even older.

21 here, start my journey in a week. I think it's mostly a maturity and respect thing with younger guys. Send a 21 year old who has been spoiled his whole life then more than likely he ain't gonna cut it. Take another with no respect for the experienced and tries to act like he knows it all because he made it a month, he probably won't make it. Take one who is dedicated and willing to put in work, he might make it lol.

But if that driver was a smoker, and a heavy one at that, smoking ages a person. Also, not taking care of oneself, by over-indulging in the buffet table, or using a lot of salt, or drinking a lot of sugary drinks.

I am 55 and have been told that i looked at least no more than 40..!!!

I'm 38. Been smoking for 18 years and driving for 20. I still get carded for cigarettes. :biggrin_25510:
