Every company has parameters built in. Like you can drive under 25 or 30 mph for less than 2 miles. Or similar nonsense.
As far as using line 5 under load or dispatch it is actually illegal to use a commercial vehicle under dispatch or under load or personal reasons. If God forbid you should say get into any kind of trouble at that point it will be legally your fault and the company and DOT will hang you by your private sausage.
The last company I was at used personal convince to get day cabs to drivers homes (if they normally parked them at home), but they could not do it loaded or under dispatch, and they driver had to have 10 off when they got there.
Do not wait for the last minute to find a parking space. that is the purpose of trip planning.
Any eLog Tricks?

surprised it took this many posts ^^^^ to get the trip planning post. But they are right. Learn the areas you run in. When is it better to shut down for a sure spot. I have a couple different guides. One is park my rig. it basically is a list of truck friendly places that has other info such as restaurants available. Not usual spots too. they have a website to order the book. Comes in handy. Other one for sale in TS now is Next Exit.
I tried to reserve an hour out of my 11 as MY time available for driving if needed. Meaning the comany got 10 hrs available from me to drive for them. If needed I had that cushion. See where that can help you based on how you run. Able to adjust your driving schedule to earlier start of the day and earlier shut down to grab a spot? -
Drive two miles.... turn off truck....drive two miles....turn off truck
If there are stoplights you can hit SB and get another two miles. Repeat until destination reached (use method for getting to first stop of day if possible)
Rediculous right....
But what you gotta do if you wanna save your clock...
You see 7:59 on the clock hit SB or pull over and shut truck off and edit the on to off....
You should have an off duty drive option you can use for your pc time. -
I am expedited. Trip planning is a bit of a myth in my circumstance. The QC chirps, I accept and I go. Unless I tell them I need to fuel, I have 15 minutes to roll. That gives me enough time to Google my route, check against my truck atlas, write down my fuel stops and resting points and go. I don't have any control of when I am sent someplace or when I end my day. If I get a load delivered and I can get to a parking spot by 4:00 in the afternoon, great! If I deliver at 2:40 AM and I have 30 or fewer minutes to get off the property and shut down someplace, that's just a part of the job. It will be like that until I have a codriver again. One place I delivered to was nice enough to let me park in their trailer lot, but not all are like that.

She drives a straight truck. So I wonder how the Bobtail provision works.
I wonder if she has a Class A or B, but it must not be too important to her if she doesn't understand what the purpose of the E log is for. If I say anymore I think I'll be put on time out so I better stop now. -
God i just can't picture driving on elogs getting treated like a kid.

I checked our operations handbook. I don't get the 5th line option because I am not an owner op. Would've been nice...

I used to feel that way before I had to move to them, but they are not really that way once you learn how to utilize them properly. You have to change your style a bit and change the way you do some things, but they can be managed just like anything else. And believe it or not, they do have numerous advantages over paper, especially at the right carrier.Weeman7898, Criminey Jade, peterd and 1 other person Thank this.

double on SMD.
as for the OP. it's called PERSONAL CONVEYANCE. if you don't have that somehow, somewhere, then i guess your just SOL.
i used it ALL the time on the weekends. just becuase i was parked. don't mean i'm going to stay parked.
the elogs i WAS on. went 10 minutes before starting. after that 10 minutes was deducted. unless you were stopped.
it MAY be a handy tool. but i don't feel like i need permission to drive my motorhome when i want to go somewhere. NOR, should i have to have permission just to fire up my truck. NOR, should i have to deal with it nagging, because it wants me to change the way i did my logs.
YOU MUST STOP AND CERTIFY THIS, THAT, AND THOSE OVER THERE.
tis good to be back on paper.
all you box lovers and the gooberment can stick those things where the moon shines.

What Kind of Qualcomm do you have, Crimney? Is it the newer model with the keyboard? If so, hit F10, spacebar and tap exit option on the scroll bar that pops up on the screen . The QC will reboot for about five to seven minutes, allowing you to move the vehicle without automatically logging you on duty or driving. If you're still moving the vehicle once the QC has fully rebooted it will log you on to the drive line or on duty line. My trainer showed me that trick when he wanted to drive from the shipper to a truck stop that was 5 miles away. The QC fully rebooted before he got to the truck stop, so he restarted it again at the stop light allowing more time for him to get to the Flying J without it being logged.
Another option, I believe is to simply log off and log back in once you get to your destination. I think you will be automatically logged as on duty at the very moment you log back into the system.
Hope that helps.Criminey Jade Thanks this.
