Ok, so what you need to do is go to Lowes or Home Depot and pick up a low profile respirator (flat long cartridges). This kind fits under most welding helmets. They're $10-15.
I was a mechanic for a long time and was exposed to and breathed all kinds of nasty crap... asbestos, toluene, welding and cutting fumes and probably worst of all--I cleaned grease off my hands with Trichlorethane... otherwise known as 1,1,1. I'm quite sure I'll probably end up with some weird sort of cancer or maybe a third eye growing out of my back.
In the meantime, call OSHA, they'll get management straightened out in a hurry. You'll have protective equipment there in a flash.
Any ex manufacturing workers?

to be more to life than this but not sure what to do. Reminds me of the
bear in the cage story. Bear is caught, and placed in a cage. Every day,
when fed, the bear gets up, walks 15 ft. to eat and returns to lay down.
After so long, the cage was removed. Without additional restraints of any
kind, the bear gets up, walks 15' to eat and returns to lay down. My wife
and I had talked about going on the road when I first heard talk of an anticipated driver shortage. I'm 50, just graduated this past Dec 15th, and
am taking my physical, drug test and road test this Monday, the 21st with
Crete Carrier. I'm glad I did, only wish sooner. Keep doing what ur doing,
keep getting what ur getting. Should you go, choose a good company.
There is a lot of good information here and plenty of feedback. I'd be more
than happy to keep you informed of my experiences along the way. -
Yeh Moose keep us posted on your journey, what kinda work did you do before?

hello mandiesel, I came from manufacturing of the Cornhusker 800 grain
and combo trailers in Lincoln, NE for a year and 9 mo's after having total
R hip replacement and having to go through a temp service (must b getting
old)to obtain a job as Doc recommended no more construction. And
believe me you, I'd just as soon not go through another hip replacement.
I cut and drilled steel and aluminum for different parts of the small(about
50 employees)plant. And on occasion some milling projects. Loved the responsibility and the fact that most left me alone unless a special project came up. Hated the way a guy wasted away 9.5hrs a day for $11.00, at times having to look for work to keep busy. The more you watch, the
more you see,the more you think....man, there's got to be a better......
Be for that, about 90% concrete construction, flat work, footings, poured residential foundations, operate concrete trailer pump and
boom pump including preventative maintenance. Four years in the
Marine Corps, Motor Transport, driving, dispatching, training drivers from
radio and wire platoon. "Motor Transport isn't the pride of the corp, but
w/out Motor T, the Pride don't ride."22yrs marriage, 2 son's wich
remind me what my father said "what goes around comes around" 7
surgeries, a deceased father, an aging mother and a realistic fear of
dieing broke, on the road we go. Passed my physical, drug and road
test yesterday. Go back to complete some more paper work and get
lined up w/a trainer tomorrow and will be on the way soon. Looking
forward to getting into an industry where the work one does is a direct reflection of oneself utilizing his/hers abilities. Wishing you the best. -
Well as far as being a loner goes trucking might be right for you. Another thing you should ask yourself is are you a self starter. This is important if you plan to go into O/O.
-
I rankin O/O be a few more years down the road for me.

I had both hips replaced in the late 90's. I got avascular necrosis in both hips from taking allergy shots.
Anyways, what company did you go to work for and did the hip replacement come up at all during the physical?
