That’s what I was wondering. If it was a hopper or trap, you may be able to see the difference in the cross brace spacing in the center. Part of the reason I lean to Western is the hooks. The few that are pretty clear, just have that shape western uses.
Western and Alloy both had this shape on their rails, even on the non hopper trailers the bottom edge wasn’t flat.
$3500 for that one and just about the same shape as mine. Mine has all the lights on it, but since only 25% of them work, that's not really saying that much. Now I feel I can throw a little money at this old girl since I gave $1000 for her.
Here are a few more pictures. The sale ad that Long FLD posted has many pictures but the one huge difference I see is the tail light placement. I don't have a picture of the rear right now, but I'll get one later and post it. When I got the trailer home, the first thing my wife said was, "It's rusty, we need to get some paint on it to protect it." So, next trip to the big city, a few gallons of Rustolium will be in order. I'm thinking just the standard black but who knows. I'll have to spend some time with the rosebud and welder to fix and straighten a few things before paint. I'll also be stripping off all the lights and wiring and she'll be re-wired and new LED all the way around with 2 extra side markers on each side, plus the center marker light will also be a turn signal. Also can't forget the DOT C2 tape. Her first load will be in late September and hauling Maple slab wood for my Brother-in-law. Yes, I got nominated, haha Got to have her done by then. Should be a fun little project.
When I seen him at MATS he showed us some pics of others trucks, one may have been the truck he got from you. Seems they had different cartoon characters on each one…
Yes sir. My ‘67 has Wyle E. Coyote holding a knife and fork in both hands. The ‘70 had Taz wound up in a dust cloud. Uncle had them hand painted on the back back in the 80’s. Wyle E. is a little worn now. There was a guy long since passed away went by the handle of “Preacher” in the San Antonio area that hand painted and lettered. Had a shop but would go mobile in the area. Hands would come from other states to get his work. Uncle did them on rear of cabs. Bob got them done on the radiator shutters.
Them old TiP mudflaps are pretty cool. I’d be hanging them up on my shop wall for historical display.
What kind of timeframe are they from? Did a quick search and found this. If I'm reading this right, he "Transport Pool" got dropped in '76. So, that puts the mudflaps between '68 and '76. History | TIP Group (tip-group.com)
My guess would be 70’s into early 80’s at latest. Thick real rubber like that hasn’t been used in years. They started up in 1968 and changed the logo in 1993 when they sold out to GE trailer fleet services.
