My tester let me float gears, 22 years ago but she did. I’ve taken lots of guys to get their CDL through the years and I’ve never heard of a single one not being allowed to float gears.
Any help please

Kind of you to help people test JD. Finding a truck to test in took me a very long time. It was easily the biggest roadblock i had.

Wasn’t mine, I just rode with other employees to take their test.Oxbow, FoolsErrand and cke Thank this.

Some autos have a Romper Room of sorts. A manual shifting paddle. Its manual mode. To wit equipped with a little logic so you don't go forth and turn that into a learning tool. The Rockwell Meritor had the best one for it's time.

I floated gears for mine too. I've heard a lot of folks saying they don't let you anymore. Sent a couple guys in to test a couple years back, so I called the exam station before they went, to ask. Examiner I talked to said he didn't care how you shift... if you can handle the truck safely... you can handle the truck.Oxbow, Deacon jones and johndeere4020 Thank this.

And I bet each time you took the tester their favorite style chicken wings.

I think the thing with testing is that is you crunch the gears more than once you fail the test
