Any hope? Should I give it a shot?

if you had been a "desk jockey" for all those years, try working at any local auto or truck dealership, behind either the parts counter or service desk. since you have computer skills, you would be able to learn the ADAP or whatever program they have. jobs in dealerships can pay decent wages with benefits. if you are a "personable type of person" you would work well behind the service desk, making sales of services. even the parts counter guy makes added sales in parts needed for a particular job.

many of the dealership jobs behind a counter are trainee openings as well.

even the local PepBoys, NAPA, AutoZone, etc.

There are very few driving jobs that do not have as part of the job occasional heavy lifting and pallet jacking. I'm in pretty good condition and know that jacking a load off a trailer will wind me.

Another idea: you seem to be the kind of person who doesn't want to sit at home watching reruns of Leave It To Beaver. I respect that. Another field that can never be outsourced overseas is medical. There are a vast number of different things that need to be done in the medical field that do not involve heavy lifting, aerobic activity or direct patient contact.

Good luck to you and please keep us updated on what you decide to do.

Just a thought, look into Courier driving a van. I believe 30 or 40 pounds is the maximum weight packages they carry but 90% of the load would be well below that. Don't need a CDL either.
