I have recently changed my home of record to Maine (Friendship). I drive for Swift. I haven't had much trouble at all getting home time but I know that I can't depend on being there the exact day I want to be there. It's logistically difficult for the planners. Last trip home I delivered in Littleton NH, then, in a kind of roundabout way, I was deadheaded home. I have picked up loads (after hometime) in Dexter and Skowhegan. I was set to pick up a load in Brunswick but the shipper couldn't get the load ready. Bottom line is that Swift has freight coming OUT of Maine...not much going in. I'm pretty sure there are some regional drivers that actually do drop freight in Maine.
Having said all that, I am NOT recommending Swift (or any other carrier for that matter). Swift has done well by me and I really can't complain too much.
I see a fair number of Prime trucks on 95 and 295 also. Prime, I think, is more active in Maine than Swift.
I'd say just to get with a carrier that is large enough to have freight going into/coming out of Maine, stick with that carrier for at least a year, then look into R C Moore, Pottles and Hartt. All 3 have terminals in Maine and, if I'm not mistaken, all three are HQ'd in Maine. Another longer range possibility is to get with Hannafords, Shaw's, Reny's, etc.
    Good luck!

Well, the yard in Bangor (1.5 hr away) may be a drop yard but they list it as a location so, who knows. I looked into prime and they told me I was out of their hiring range but at that point I was also looking at getting my training through them also. R.C Moore is in Maine but 2.5hr away. I have contacted Millis Transfer. They only take newbies from their school but, I may be able to that paid for stinead seeing my school doesnt officially start until 6/6/11. We'll see I guess. Thanks everyone.

I looked into both of those a while ago (2 wks) and neither are hiring. Thanks for the info though. Like I said, anything is welcome!
