I’m Barr nunn solo, average less than 2000 miles a week. That’s Jan, Feb and so far March 2024

So we can do the math using conservative estimates:
I. expect 34hrs down every 6 days, so 20% of your time is downtime, so on 21 days out that's about 16 days running, plus another day cuz the last reset you're going home anyway so you get seventeen running days.
II. 17days x 500mi = 8500mi
III. $0.90/mile x 8500mi is ballpark 7700, we'll round it down to $7500
IV. Are we *really* gonna run 500mi a day in the northeast + great lakes region?!? lets shave that 7500 down to $7000
And there you have it, you can reasonably assume you'll make about $7000 per 28 day period. That's $84,000 per year before bonuses, rounding up to 30 day months, using really, really conservative estimates, etc.
Personally I'd rather just get paid hourly or salary and not hafta do all this figuring every. time. I look at a new job to see if the pay is worth it. but hey that's the industry they don't wanna give you straight numbers they're still stuck in the 1940s -
If you’re a truck driver looking for a company to work with DON’T choose Barr-Nunn…
They flew me in this past Sunday (4/14/24) on a cheap flight that had a layover in Philly for 4 hours, wasted our (it was me and 5 other drivers) time in class doing paperwork and watching videos for 2 days, then told me on day 3 (the day before getting my truck) that I was disqualified without a valid reason or explaining why??
Their “reason” was that I didn’t drive for 11 months out of the past 36 months? Even though I have 2 years experience in the past 36 months.
They also said I have a doctors note from Dec 2022 that RELEASED ME BACK TO WORK with restrictions. “No repetitive kneeling, squatting or climbing” and “No prolonged walking on uneven terrain”.
Can someone explain to me how that prevents me from driving a truck? Even with a year experience after that?
The thing that really pisses me off is this was information they’ve known prior to me flying in for orientation. I also HATE how they went about it.
Eddie usually picks us up from the hotel. Yesterday, he came but sat with me to tell me I’m disqualified. I asked why, he read whatever email he had but didn’t fully understand it himself. Then he said just wait here at the hotel while he goes back to figure things out and “maybe we’ll get you in a truck tomorrow.”
I go to my room and the hotel calls. “Hey you have to leave.” Then Olivia calls and tells me a cab is on the way because they booked me a flight that leaves in an hour 1/2. I googled the airport and it’s a 35 minute drive. HOW WILL I MAKE IT?
I asked Olivia why was I disqualified and who can I speak to and she says “I don’t know Stephen but the longer we’re on the phone the longer it’ll take for me to call you a cab. I gotta go.” and hangs up on me.
I call my recruiter and he says “that’s it man. nothing more to talk about it.” then stops responding to the questions in my emails but only asking me if I seen my flight info. Guess he realized he won’t be making commission off me.
The cab driver calls and says she’ll be late. Which means I’m for sure not making my flight.
Listen… take your chances if you want with them but I promise you these people get you in, get you out. They deal with so many drivers that you’re just another number.
I’ll never speak good about them.
Nice trucks though.
