Yeah instructors and trainers both are definitely harder to come by during the winter months. With nicer weather on the way, things should start getting better on that front. When I signed on March 09' I came from a private CDL school, but was hooked up with a trainer the very same day orientation ended. In fact, we were on the road that same night.
He does need an instructor before he can get a trainer. But many instructors are also trainers, so it's possible that his instructor and trainer will be the same person. Just depends.
Oh, and I'm not a trainer or an instructor, but do live just north of Chicago. I'm pleased to inform you that getting home is easy as pie. We live in an excellent area as far as that is concerned. Only problem is the only drop yards we have are south / southwest of the city. Nothing to the north. It never seems to fail...I'll get a load from the south and travel through Chicago to deliver north of the city, then have to go back through the city to the south and drop the trailer, then go back through again to the north to get home. End up being exhausted by the time I get home!
any info on primes cdl training

Thanks for the feedback Prime. Zach is on the road with his Instructor as we speak. If any of you drivers made a call or had anything to do with getting him hooked up with an Instructor. His mother and I aprreciate it Drivers. Was told he was requested by a trainer that wasn't there at the time others were picked by trainers that were there.... Hey NoTarps...say "hello" if you get a chance.

I cant belive after all this time Prime is still draggin ppl into those overpriced seats in their cut back trucks. It would seem the word would have spread by now and those crooks would be out of ppl to screw. I cant help but shake my head in wonder every time i pass one of their rent a trucks running 55mph tryin to save enough feul to make a lil check this week. If you cant afford a dang truck drive company, you know even a crappy company writes you at least a little check at the end of the week.

We do indeed have a company side gunslinger. I'm a company driver at Prime and I make "at least a little check at the end of the week." I've been at Prime about a year now. When should I expect the "crooks" to "screw" me? I'd like to leave the week before that. Thanks.
U2Exit Thanks this. -
Im happy to make 6.75... get paid extra for every little bit at that and above that on a progressive scale... I keep hearing people getting hired at .26/mile.. where our "initial" wage starts at .30 and then jumps to .34/mile after the first 60k miles.
So what if its 55 mph. Im getting better miles this winter than last including the fact I took a week vacation this year, as I didnt last. Safety wise we had our best year ever last year and they totally contribute it to us slowing down. (Including the fact we racked up more miles than we ever have before too) More miles less accidents/incidents/citiations.
I have yet to find a serious fault with paperless logs. Saftey quoted some statistics from our competitors who also have paperless... one company (I cant remember which) had a 100 percent improvement in their out of service for logs citations.
I wouldnt call it a small paycheck either... I made 47k last year... raises are coming right on time... I hit that milage mark, and my check automatically reflects the change.
Cant speak for the L/O but I am hearing a little bit less grumbling, and a seeing a few more smiles. Company driver wise- "no bubbles no troubles" -

The RTC/CHD Company driver handbook has the original pay scale that I know, while a seprate new pay scale is handed out by the Fleet Manager...
I little bit confusing if you ask me.
