I just finished up my first year solo at Prime. I started as a CDL student in July of 2009. I'm currently at 35.5 cpm and just about to clear the mileage hurdle for a paid vacation. Will have grossed 43K at year's end, am debt free for the first time in my adult life, and currently looking to invest some of the money I've put away this year.
I love being an OTR trucker as I am single and don't have any kids. I am very happy I chose Prime. I received great training (for which I have repaid nothing and owe nothing) operate well maintained equipment and am kept running by a great Fleet Manager that has never failed to get me home (or elsewhere, for that matter) when requested.

Complaints? Not real happy with the company trucks being governed at 58 (pedal) 62 (cruise). I don't have a lead foot and enjoy the fuel bonus almost every week, but sometimes.... argghhh, no power!
Sitting on hold waiting for a live body to verify what I just sent them on the Qualcom gets irritating at times. Also none too sure the recent foray into intermodal is going to be "good for the drivers" as has been posited.
On balance, though, Prime has been very good to and for me. Very sure I made the right choice for me.

I ignore my 401k... I fund it with 10 percent of my pay and the Prime matching funds, and just let the model of 30% aggressive and 70% Conservative work itself.

As far as active trading, You can put up to $5k per year in an IRA.

My $10k Ive invested over the last year and half in the IRA is over $12k now... in large part to Sirius going from .30 to 1.40 since I bought my first chunk in July 09

Wish I had bought a whole lot more of Sirius stock at that time. Ive spread the rest around on half a dozen stocks.

Unfortunatly Bank of America is dragging me down a bit, otherwise I would be closer to $13k if I can brake even on it.

This very well could have been written by me, aside from the fact I came into the Prime training program after receiving my CDL at a private school (if I could do it over again, I'd do it all at Prime).

I have just about 2 years under my belt with Prime now, and am not planning on going anywhere. They have treated me extremely well and my experience/complains are pretty much exactly the same as Emton. Lately I've been running the Northeast a bit more than I'd like, but my fleet manager seems to know when I'm at my breaking point and always gets me a nice run out. I also receive extra compensation for short mileage runs. I've had a lot of those the 4 or 5 weeks, so my average CPM in that timeframe has been over 40 cents per mile. Hard to complain about the northeast when I'm making over 40 cents per mile, and still getting 2400mi+ per week.

In the last 7 days I've run a mix of the northeast and the midwest and have run 3200 miles.

If my best friend was getting into trucking, I'd absolutely recommend Prime as a great place to start. Prime doesn't offer a whole lot in terms of local / regional / dedicated runs, but if you enjoy the OTR lifestyle (which I do), than Prime is a good place to be.

I started their student driver program almost a year ago now... I have been an A seat Lease Op driver since early May of this year. I ran Lease Op solo for about 5 months, and have been running team Lease Op with my brother-in-law (whom also went through the PSD training program) for about 3 months now. We're making great money, running our rear-ends off, and have no real complaints with Prime. Prime has a ton of freight, and they keep us moving.

It IS actually pretty wonderful... thanks for asking.

    sydsdriver Thanks this.
