Had a local LEO pull me over for a tire on the trailer this afternoon. Drop n' hook out by the airport in Ft. Worth this morning, took an 8 at the Pilot, and was heading up 35W... had just made my mind up to drop into the TA and get it fixed when he came up behind me.
Yes sir, I know about the tire - flagged it on my pretrip last night when I hooked on. No, sir, no moving violations since 2007, and my last equipment violation was a tire warning in 2008.
Shortly thereafter he handed me my license, said to make sure I got the tire fixed, and to have a nice day.
Just finished having the shop change the tire - US287 between DFW and Denver is a crummy place to be stuck with a shredded tire.
I've always treated LEOs this way - with truth and respect. I find that 95% of the time, you get that returned. And if you're totally straight with them, they'll try to find a way to minimize whatever they're required to do. That doesn't mean there aren't LEOs out there who aren't that way - but hey, its a job. Not one I'd really rather have either.
Any LEO

The cure for rabid dogs is a lead pill.
The same should go for these piles of dog feces upon conviction.
I don't think I was unclear what my feelings are on the matter. -
You may not get any video, but you still get audio. These systems have a transmitter on the officer that is picked up and recorded by the system. At least the ones that I have seen do. I suppose that some may not.outerspacehillbilly Thanks this.

The camera's turn, they are on a pivot mount. So my car may be canted toward the road or the ditch, I spin my camera to face the direction I want on each stop to face the vehicle I have stopped. If I pull in front of the truck, I spin the camera around and shoot out the back. The microphone is wireless and can be heard very clearly. Even if all you see is the back of the trailer, you can hear everything going on. There has been times where it takes a dump and I need to get a new one or repair that one. In my car I have a small TV screen that shows what the camera view is. So I can move the camera by hand to capture what I want. When I arrest someone and transport them, I turn the camera around to capture the entire transport, and the interior microphone captures everything that is said. Big Don, you would be amazed at how the new systems work. They are recorded to a hard drive and when you get near specific locations they automatically download to a master system. The techonoly is over my head, I just know it works pretty well. No more need to change the tape out after 8 hours.ChromeDome, The Challenger and outerspacehillbilly Thank this. -
DB, I'm sure there are so many innovations that I've never even heard of available right no. I retired from LE back in the mid 90's when dash cams were the "newest gadget" for some of the bigger agencies. The one I was with sure didn't have them.
All these on board computers and printers that you folks have now, would have been heaven for me. . . -
Tell me about it. I started with just a radio, and light box in a console. Now the computer, printer, internet, I don't know how we made it so long before. When I jump in a car that doesn't have the comptuer, I feel lost. -
I have noticed the Dashcams have been both a blessing and a curse. A blessing for LEO's who have been accused of wrongdoing and been proven innocent due to the Cams. A curse to those LEO'S who are less than professional.
The Challenger and Big Don Thank this. -

The local city cops around here were testing a button cam that mounted on their uniform. They seemed to work pretty good and the cops seemed to be pretty happy with them.

Also from what I've heard they are completely unable to tamper with the tape. Either by the officer wanting to hide some thing or some one up stream that might want to sabatoge an officer's career. The Challenger and Big Don Thank this.
