if your talking about your new entrant audit i wouldn't even sweat it, id just show that you parked the truck at the repair shop when you came into town rather than at your own place show you picked it up from there. when i did mine they didn't even look at my maintenance logs. they asked for 30 days of log books, and supporting documents eg fuel receipts tolls ect. they asked for dot annual inspection for 1 piece of equipment. they asked for a drivers list owned equipment list, pre employment drug screen for 1 driver, proof of enrollment in a drug testing consortium. a copy of your mcs90 and a few other things i cant remember right now, but they certainly didn't ask for every document your required to keep and they didn't ask me for my repair log. for the most part they are not looking to hang you by the balls on a new entrant as long as you got the big items covered there not going to sweat ya. when they contact you for your audit they will send you a list of what all they want, then pull all the files they want ahead of time double check all your i's are dotted and t's are crossed on the items they ask for and as long as they don't see a major red flag on any of that they won't dig any deeper. you will also have a month or more notice prior to your audit.
HopeOverMope, TallJoe and fargonaz Thank this. -
Sure. I understand your position. I also understood the law. But... when you have a situation where no one in the company enforces, the police could care less (Chasing after the addict...) and the DOT non existant unless they catch up to you pulling a particular grade a tad slower than normal with the big cam 300... open the scale in front of you and KACHING!
It was a form of who cares in my region during the time I spoke of. I could have taken that bobtail to california on a lark if they let me go home 10 days on it. No one would have gave a #### because there are no fuel reciepts hitting them. It's all cash from me. I was happy to pay it.
Now if I tried that with FFE or some other more recent companies? I would have been canned on unauthorized use within a day and then written so fat on the DAC I would have to go flip burgers for 5 years until it cooled off and cleared the record. I know where the wind blows and how the bread is buttered. There are very good outfits that will hand you a card that says it's personal conveyance and then staffer will stand to your face and say "We don't care what you do with it AS LONG YOU FIX IT if you break it and you fuel it yourself." With that kind of authroization, you can bet your time that I will be enjoying many fun times off around the USA running a state or two just exploring on enough fuel to run 2000 miles.
One time in my mid 20's I bought a FLD Midroof tractor. I did not own it very long. But the possibilities that opened up wtih it totally nationally working with no more unemployment or problems other than the necessary expenses of being a O/O was a very motivating time for me. I would do it again in a heart beat. Just so long I know the first two million in the bank will drain off into the business within 5 years... LOLZ /sarcasm. -
Id log it as off duty driving, but really how long is it going to be in the shop? If its going to be there more than 34 hours why not just log it on duty and don't worry about it. Youre going to have a fresh 70 after the repair is done anyway. Unless its something simple like a tire itll take a day or so for most shops to even look at it.

Isn't this just like Nazi Germany when a hard working person has to explain what they were doing every minute of the day to someone from the government.

Come on- I Don't buy that at all-
Stop letting this business run your lives!! AND I MEAN THAT.
Its your truck/trailer whatever- Use Common sense- Work on it wherever-Take it to the show- Do whatever you want- Quit letting this "Logging" thing depict your life.
Sheesh......
The ONLY time you should ever log anything- is when Commerce for Profit is occurring
I Repeat- Interstate Commerce for a Profit.JimmyWells and HopeOverMope Thank this. -
Even if they had enough courage not to, their good neighbors did it for them. Interesting thing that Weimar Republic was an exemplary instance of a democratic system. So there is not really a long way at all.JimmyWells Thanks this.

Since 395.8e says information in your logbook (signed confession actually)can be used to prosecute you, if you write " I did not voluntarily fill out this log book", then you can go to court and have your ticket dismissed. The 5th amendment gives you a right not to be a witness against yourself.

As mentioned above, don't log it. You're actually under 100 air mile radius and don't need to even run a log anyway. Too many people are just eager to be enslaved. Sheep.
