There was a funny story on this forum where a guy switched from reefer to flatbed.
He arrived at his delivery and the guy told him it would be a a little while until they could get to him.
The driver said ok, I could use a 34 hour reset anyway, where should I park?.
The customer said "what? no man it will be like 10 minutes..."

I wouldn't say oversize is that much of big bucks. Sometimes I make more on legal loads because I can get a return haul. Nothing like a 1600 mile deadhead! Matter fact, I made more money with dry van regional Midwest then flatbed. But I do enjoy the feeling that I actually worked. That is one of the main reasons I enjoy open deck.Last edited: Aug 30, 2017
Reason for edit: My grammar sucks -
If you want to haul ice cream you'll need your reefer tarps.
Mr Ed, dngrous_dime, tucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'd try hauling hay for a farmer to get my feet wet. Lots of opportunities working on a farm.
Best approach is just slipping resumes under barn doors.
Good luck.johndeere4020 and Cottonmouth85 Thank this. -
I've done all three... flatbed is rough in the winter but no long wait and some shippers was all ready preloaded so secure and go.. oand you tend to look in your side mirror more when you first get into it..lol

That is very good information.Thats one thing I did when I started out on my own.Seemed like I always ended up cursing some hillbilly out for passing me and throwing out a cigarette.

reefer/van has sides the other doesn't

That's funny, I do the same thing but haul gas. Chances are probably unlikely that anything will ever happen but just on principle I guess ha

Years ago I was in a bar with a drunk flatbedder, not a truck driver, but a flatbedder.
He kept saying it over and over.
So, flatbedders are like the vegans of the trucking industry.A21CAV Thanks this. -
I wouldn't say that. We're the cool guys. Like bull haulers.
No one likes vegans.johndeere4020, TripleSix and tucker Thank this.
