I personally don’t think you have ever had your own authority for you not to understand you can’t sell or transfer dot number to a different owner.Again post the chapter in the fmcsa where it says you can.

If it's a corp you purchase the stock and both of the numbers stay the same. Unless you're keeping the location(lease/own)the address will change. Phone numbers can stay the same, just forward to yours. Bought a few but they were equipment, customers, ect, not just for the number.

If it's an LLC it is even easier. A lot less paperwork. If you were to look up my former MC and DOT numbers you wouldn't see anything relating to me at all. It's as if the new owner has been the owner since day one.
