Being drafted or deployed is not a choice to be away. OTR is.

    .....To shower & sleep

Trucking is not the only job that requires working a lot of hours. The bigger the paycheck you want.... the more you have to work for it. My wife worked from home but it required her to be in front of her laptop for most of the day. Paid good but took up a lot of her day. Talk with any high income white collar worker about the amount of hours they put in.

If you HAVE to do OTR then put your time in & find a local job once you get the experience. I had local companies willing to hire me after 3 months experience.

Dropped9, where are you from ? Maybe we can help you find a local job.

In one of my last positions I commuted 3 hours a day. I barely saw my kids. Maybe saw them an hour a night. If one can use otr as a stepping stone to a local gig, then more power to them! That is what I intend to do if I cannot get a local gig right out of school.

are you from mars?? the draft hasn't been in effect for since the 70's. every service member today made a choice to serve their country, and when you make that choice being deployed is part of the deal.

that's what makes their service special, they made a choice to do what others wont do. only 1 per cent of the public serves in the military.

have you never wondered why trucking seems to have a higher numbers of veterans than other jobs? its because again they choose to do what others wont do.

I served, my daughter and my son currently serve. its a choice they made , and my oldest daughters husband is a retired marine.

thank god , that some folks make that choice .

I handled it by working hard to get a local job and almost 3 years later it paid off. Until then a good cell plan with lots of data, phone with wifi hotspot, laptop with a camera and skype for video chat is probably the best you can do.

    @ skateboardman.
Don't call me junebug. You want to debate this fine. Try it without insults. I'm done with this thread.

you got to be kidding , you think junebug is an insult??? its just southern for young fellow. just noticed your profile says youre from Indianapolis,in.

its not an insult by any means, whats northern for young fellow, whippersnapper perhaps? I got to say some of you folks are wrapped way to tight.

that's not an insult either, just a figure of speech.

by the way do you know what a junebug is? its a big beetle, kind of gold colored, it was kind of fun as a kid to catch em , tie a thread to their leg and they would fly around and around. kind of a like a radio control airplane on a string.

and I really do mean it when I say "junebug" isn't an insult, sorry you took it that way. you young fellows are sensitive these days.

funny how you assume you struck a nerve and hurt my feelings, but are offended by a southern colloquial term, amazing. I get insulted when folks think they have struck a nerve, lol , that's a attempt at humor

you do know that junebug is dale Earnhardt jr's nickname do you not? why? because he is Earnhardt JR>, or a young Earnhardt.

My dad used to hand me a mile long list if stuff to do and shut the door and roll all week come home on Friday and piss and moan that I didn't do something just right. We farmed 1,800 acres and the crops weren't gonna grow their selves. I played football all 4 years dad never saw a game not a #### one. Mom went to very few.

In my opinion the man is to go provide and the woman is to nurture. I'm a "Man the F up" kinda guy. My dad made me do it his dad did and so on. If you spend every waking moment with a kid their gonna see you as a friend not a authority figure. Growing up, when parents could beat there kids, mom would Whoop you and if it wasn't to bad that was the end if it was bad "Well when your father gets home...". To this day I don't blame my dad for running hard, always had food on the table always had a roof over my head, always had anything I needed.

Sorry if I step on anyone's nerve but if you are a stay at home dad your either a little fruity or just plain lazy. My parents would have beat me around the world if I would have been that lazy. Kids all play video games and watch tv, Men work. I don't know about some of you but I'm a man.
