Well I don't have to worry about that anymore. Unless I have to go into that area to deliver my company puts me on the toll roads in the Chicago area. With all the money Roehl gets from the government there is really no excuse to have Drivers running 94 through the city. It's like $30-35 to run 294/94 with ez pass.
Have another question. I just seen a thing for a dedicated run In my area and am trying trying to figure out if I want to go with the dedicated or if I want to do the otr national where I'll be home after 11 to 14 days. Just trying to figure out the pay difference and hometime difference because if I am home more but paid close close to the same amount of miles it might be worth it to do the dedicated. Just trying to get insight to figure out what my be the best direction for me. Thanks
So like I said before I just received my conditional offer for Curtainside. Then I'm reading a thread about a guy who went to work for Schneider and passed his DOT physical but then went to orientation and did their pre-work screening and failed the blood pressure requirements by 2 and couldn't finish and was sent home. SO MY QUESTION is what exactly are we in for on the first day?? I would hate to quit my 21 year career only to find out that I failed the test and have no job! Now I'm not that out of shape but I'm also not a personal trainer either...lol.
You do the prehire exercises the last day. Your flatbed is fairly thorough. But you got 3 weeks with a pool at your disposal. I used it for a bit of cardio work, as well as for some upper body building. You usually have 45 minutes or so for lunch. Eat something quick and then go for a walk or run around the yard. Plus, with the hotel stay, you get access to a gym. Plenty of time to get you in good enough shape to pass. They check your blood pressure first, so don't drink any caffeine that morning, smoke, and relax. Deep breaths, ect. Between each test, they check your heart rate to make sure it never goes over a safe level. I think the highest mine ever went was 15 bump after my walk up and down the trailer with 35 and 70 lbs in quick succession. And I wasn't moving slow. They'll send you a list of the exercises you'll have to do so you can practice
I have a few questions. I am a week or two from finishing cdl school and Roehl is one of the company's that I am looking at. Hoping for a local job as I have the wife and kids , I know not the best for trucking, but willing to work hard to make it work. I am looking at the 7/4-7/3 home time, so I'm wondering about seat slipping (3 people to two trucks)and how this works for breakdowns, trash in the truck and moving in every week? Also wondering about pay, I looked at the website and it states avg pay 800 per week so with the 7/4-7/3 would that be 3 paychecks or would that be 2 paychecks in a 21- 3 week period? Any other info on this route would be great. I live in MN so hopefully there are some drivers here that can help. lets try this again anybody have any thoughts
Most, if not all the dedicated fleets run 5 days and off on the weekends. I run Georgia Pacific dedicated and run 5 to 6 days a week and home for 36 to 48 hours. I can run longer if I choose. Just have to let my FM know and he'll happily oblige. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you run hard while you're out and keep the miles runnin under the truck you'll make good money in any of the fleets. You hear people say "I'm a paid tourist" or "I get to see the country". You do that and you will not make good money! You have to remember that this is a job, and like all jobs you have to work it to make it pay! Big Will, you need to sit down with a pad and paper, write down your wants and don't wants, then the pro's and con's of each fleet you are considering. Do that and you will make the best decision for yourself! Roehl has several opportunities available, but you have to choose what fits you best!
My main things are I would like to be home every 14 days or less if pay is right and main thing I don't want is to slip seat. Do you slip seat on dedicated routes or is it the hometime plans only.
No slip searing on dedicated, unless you're on a home time fleet doing dedicated. Not even sure if that happens, but it might.
I just want to say thanks to the drivers and trainers on this forum for all the helpful answers to my many questions, I am so anxious and excited to get started on the 28th I can't stand it. But a special thanks to bayle, plenz and scott. You all have been a big help in my decisions I have made these last few days.
Good luck to ya big will. And ill c u out there on 5/5/14 and hopefully we will both do well. Again best of luck.
