"Tax Advantage" plan...I get the gist, more or less, but I would think that, everything else being equal, leave that deal alone and run the "Premium Pay". Premium's starting pay is $.015 more per mile. TA plan sounds interesting, kinda...but I see that while I get less taxed pay, my ppm is also reduced...No mortgage or car payment, just the basics (phone, car insurance, gas, groceries and rent)...and I live in WI, so I can't write off my meals, etc on my tax return...
Someone with experience on the TA/PP thing have any insight?

I think when I did my taxes for the first three years on 7/4 7/3, I did a mock-up of on the TA plan, and it never came off as a benefit. But, dodging state taxes is a bit of a red herring, compared to Federal, which is where the big payout is. But, without a Mortgage, which means without the Mortgage interest deduction, I don't recall if it would help much more than the standard deduction for the EZ form.
The main downsides for TA are, lowering your Gross income for Social Security, Credit Checks, getting loans, and I'm pretty sure your vacation pay would take a hit, unemployment insurance, workers compensation...
Bonuses: lowering your income for Child support payments, Financial Aid, and I'm sure some other aspects that don't pop into mind. -
I don't have a mortgage and take the standard deduction when doing taxes. I just use the PP plan and it has worked out fine. Of course I have a number of children so I usually get back more than I pay in. And we wonder why our country is broke.

hello i just got hired right out of school for this company and i was wondering if they have APU's on their trucks for the OTR drivers.

Have plenty of 'old' experience. But due to newer requirements am going to full school for retraining. Is there any consideration given for a 'student' like me? Or to put it another way; do they ever abreviate the training?

Kit, SOME of the trucks do, some don't...I saw one the other night when I dropped the boyfriend at his service truck that did NOT have an APU on it.
Crusty, I would think they'd treat you like any of the new drivers. My guess is that there's so much new info out there, that it can take some getting used to, plus it's nice to have a refresher over some of the basics, IMO.
If it's something REALLY basic that you know inside out, maybe you can plan to stand back a little and let the shiny newbies oooh and aaaah over it? -
The majority of the fleet has either Tripac's or battery powered APUs (new trucks)...most of the Non APU fleet has been traded in and I am sure there are still some old non apu trucks in the fleet...but not many....
I know when I went through the schoolhouse in marshfield we had a guy that had driven for 10+ years prior except for the last 3 years...I know the instructor went to bat for him...but the head honcho said no he had to complete the course...it never hurts to ask though once you hit the schoolhouse... -
T-Lady; The Tech College I'm going to is REALLY complete. Compass exams, physical and drug screens JUST TO ENROLL! seven weeks for the certificate. I'm SURE I will be up to date on changes from yesteryear. Yeah, I'll be doing allot of stepping back and chuckling to myself at the pups. I'm gonna ask the instructors if they want me to help out or just keep it to myself. Don't want to upset the apple cart.
