Not sure about the protein test but cholesterol test is generally done with a blood sample.

If your doing the urine test during your DOT physical they are looking at your sugars levels, insulin dependent diabetics are dis-qualified. If you are getting a urine test while in orientation at the carrier it is a drug test.

if you get a dot physical before you go to there school would you need to take one again there? In Indiana in order to get your permit you need the dot physical so i just got this down yesterday, and i forgot to ask recruiter about this.

I got my own DOT Physical when I went to school to get my CDL, after I got my CDL, Roehl set up and paid for me to get another physical before Orientation. because they wanted to be sure I didn't just have some quack sign off on it, so they sent me to the exact same place I'd gotten it before.

But, since that doesn't involve RDTC, I'm not sure if the answer is what you're after... and that was over three years ago... so they could have changed their system.

Physical is out of the way now. (Somehow my heart rate was an incredible 56 bpm. I haven't had a heart rate that low since I was a freshman in Highschool running track.) Should be getting word on my orientation date soon. Just leaves me with one thing to decide.

    Reefer?
    Dry Van?
    or Flatbed?

Any opinions out there? I'm comfortable with all of the above. but do any of them have better miles than the others. Which fleets have fewer drivers? (ie, less competition for loads) Will one of them be more likely to provide more runs out west? etc. etc.

Same here, but the physical roehl paid for was "a quack who signed off on it.) I could have been 600 lbs with a heart about to explode and I think I would have passed it. The one I passed during school was much more thorough.

    Good list.

I would add to bring a whiteout pen as well as the bottle. I always have students (as well as myself) make a line in the wrong place and a fine point whiteout pen works much better on thay type of mistake than a large smear from the foam tip.

I would also bring a towel. The Ohio turnpike plaza's have free trucker shower, but no towels.
I have also had to bathe in bathrooms/locker rooms of shippers/cons that did not supply towels. So it is good to have one on hand.
I have 2 that I carry just for these instances.
Bottled water, or something else to drink. It gets expensive buying from a Coke machine.

I am a flatbedder, but most students I get are van/refer, so bring atleast 1 pair of long pants, as some shippers/cons will not let you out of the truck with short pants on.
