Theres alot of negativity on these forums regarding this industry. Ive read it all. This isnt a post to help me become an o/o nor for seeking motivation from hearing any success stories from owner ops. My recently ex girlfriend knew alot of truckers from either family or friends of family. Sounds like they all do well. All variety, O/O, company otr, local etc... One example This guy has quickly paid of his house, owns a $200k tractor (those add-on family sized condos with kitchen shower toilet etc) has enough to buy one of his kids a #### brand new Mercedes for their first car. Hes able to stay home for a week or weeks at a time no problem. So yeah, he does well.
So im wondering, if theres anyone else on here who considers themselves as being successful. Not comparing to the person above but is your business is doing well, and maybe has a second truck and possibly have a driver or two to drive for them.
Second question: Regarding Taxes, those that do it right and know of all the tax deductions that go with being a small business owner, how much have you gotten back from taxes? and how much does it help you? I here from o/o's on here all their expenses and how theyre struggling and seem examples of operating expenses vs profit and how its not worth being and owner op etc etc etc......but then I look at all those expenses and just about everything is tax deductible if not everything. I see nothing but negativity and their expenses vs profit but NO one shows all that info plus the money they save/get back for deductions. Id like so see an example of Expenses vs profit after taxes are done with all possible deductions and the end result of that.
Any successful o/o's on here?

Read my post "Going Against the Grain". That says a lot about how I feel. Just have to remember you will have plenty of people that bought a job, every advantage in this business and still feel all is falling apart. Most of this business is about what your focus is on. Do you focus on running and expanding the business or get caught up in all the politics and negative aspects of the business.

Im just trying to weed out and isolate the successful Owner Operators from the loads of steering wheel holders that got into the business for the freedom and no forced dispatching and seeing hearing big $$$ from other O/O's "gross" profits. Thinking all they have to do it go to point A to B and the money rolls in. I'd LOVE to hear from real Owner Operators, The small business owners.
Ive been working at my company for 9 years. and Ive had enough. The only part of the job I like is the truck driving part of it. This past couple years and work and my personal life have been crazy and a year ago the obsession of being a truck driver hit. Ive been soaking up everything ive seen or read either on here or else where. In the beginning I was attracted to this industry for the same reason alot of other people do. Driving big trucks down some highway and seeing the states. But thats not enough for me. I come from a family line of very independent people and entrepreneurs and managers. Im extremely interested in the business side of being an owner operator. Instead of thinking i was to be a trucker has become I want to be a small business owner. Theres alot of negativity and failures out there but I also know there are successes out there even these days.BigBadBill Thanks this. -
I am not successful. Been doing it for many years.
My tax person is not very good.
I pay very little tax though. -
Have you figured how to fire your tax person yet?

Interesting thought. Maybe it would give me peace of mind the first few months of the year.

It depends on how you define success. I feel like I make a good living. Am I rich? NO. But when my wife goes to the grocery store she puts the things she wants in her cart, not just the things she needs. All of our household bills are paid by the second week of the month. I take time off when I want. The thing is, we all measure success differently.

if your doing well, then youre doing well. Success.

Its like GRIZZLY posted all in how you see success. My kids went to school in a $40,000 ride " NEW COUNTY SCHOOL BUS " and I would never buy a new MERCEDES for anyone just to prove I was a success.

Seriously, you totally crack me up.
