Well, lets not get technical on what is the benchmark of what success is. Sure the example I gave is definitely successful but Im just curious as too how many owner ops on here do well as opposed to all the negative comment towards being an owner operator and current or ex-owner ops horror stories. Although its good to deter wannabe owner ops that just think about wanting to be one so they can have their own truck and idle all they want and refuse loads dispatchers give them etc... But for those people who are wanting to do this from a business angle and have experience in being a small business owner, or educated in the fundamentals of creating and maintaining a business, customer service, and the right attitude etc. These people need to know that it can be done, and be known its just not a walk in the park for everyone and especially for people that just think being an owner op is "just truckin" with "freedom" attitude.
Any successful o/o's on here?

I am a successful O/O. This business is what YOU make of it. A few of my close friends are truck drivers, a couple are O/O's and one is a company driver. The two O/O's have a positive attitude and enjoy their business & are successful. The company driver is always disgruntled about something, I can never keep track of it, he changes his mind daily. So it's all what YOU make of it. I enjoy this business and will continue to progress our business to the next level every chance I get. It's not always easy to be successful in this business but it's not always difficult also.
If I were to only go by what's stated on internet forums, I would have been out of business a long time ago. You have to take what you read on these forums with a grain of salt. I'm not saying that it's all terrible information and nothing but pessimistic people, there is a lot of good people with positive attitudes and good information. Unfortunately the good seem to be out numbered by the bad too often.
I am from Texas and we are based here. I'm not going to list every single number here. What we (my wife, CPA and I) do is this. We do not attempt to get these large tax returns you hear about some people reporting they get every year. Our goal is to break even every year, we don't want to have a large tax bill at the end of the year and we don't want the government making money on our money just so we can get a large return at the end of the year. We let our money make money for us in our interest bearing account instead of the government earning interest on our money. -
These people need to know that it can be done, and be known its just not a walk in the park for everyone and especially for people that just think being an owner op is "just truckin" with "freedom" attitude.
Ok if you tell them the TRUTH about how its hard to do 95 %
because they do not like what they hear ( read ) , tell them it can be done , you get called a LIAR by those that never tried or tried and failed.

Or if they don't hear what they want to hear they ignore you or get upset. So many don't want to hear that there is more to being an owner operator other than cost of operation, revenue and paperwork. It is a business first - driving is a task like bookkeeping.

Do some research on IRA accounts with check writing privileges. Some banking institutions have this service, we do this through our credit union.
Check out this site for debt solutions and interest bearing account options.

Even at a low interest rate as you stated, it's better that you keep the money working for you throughout the year instead of the government holding it for you and making money with your money. -

Not exactly. I am contributing to a positive natured post for a change. Unlike the other 90% of the pessimistic threads on internet forums that do not help anyone.envayne Thanks this.
